FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

The perfect man for the job would be Martin O'Neill he can take an average player (mainly the full squad then) and make them perform a level or two above their ability.

He did this numerous times at celtic, took average players and turned them into monsters. As soon as he left they went back to being average again.

His record isn't great but he gets the best out of the players he's given.

I could do a job at Celtic.

Euro 2004 - Gerrard back pass
WC 2006 - Gerrard miss penalty
PL 2014: Gerrard Slip
WC 2014: Gerrard back header

he's a curse!

Harry Redknapp. How Hodgson got it over him is mind boggling when the players and the majority of the public wanted arry.

Redknapp would suit England.

Complete bull ******* who will promise you gold and give you copper. Talks **** and fails to deliver.

England through and through!!

Think Gerrard thought he was still playing for Liverpool there passing to Suarez...

Can't see England beating Costa Rica, can see Italy playing a safe bet with Uruguay though. If everything still goes in favour England will need to score at least two goals to stand any chance... Not going to happen unfortunately.

I cant believe I'm saying this but I think we can qualify.

Italy SHOULD beat CR - By 2 or more helps us even more.
Italy will probably beat Uruguay.
We SHOULD beat CR.

It really isn't as impossible as it seems. Difficult yes, but not impossible.

No it isn't, Rooney may have had chances but the majority came from set pieces, he had one tap in that was basically created by a frustrated Sturridge having to drop deep and wide to get a touch of the ball and singlehandedly run past 2-3 players. Rooney's chances came at the cost of everything breaking down in the opposition half and us creating hardly anything in open play, Sturridge was the player we wanted on the end of the ball in the box, not Rooney.

Whenever Rooney has played in his favoured position in a tournament against decent teams our midfield has been dysfunctional, same thing in South Africa 2010.

Sturridge bar his one moment deep was terrible all night, offered very little.

Don't get me wrong Rooney was no Suarez but he worked hard and moved to create space and make chances all game.

I'm honestly not sure whether to be disappointed or not. I'm English so I should be used to it, but still... risk is that Costa Rica draw and we'll finish bottom of the group, even if we win against them after.

Still... better than being Spain I guess. Least our expectations were low.

As usual Rooney will probably take plaudits for scoring though, despite the fact he missed everything except for that goal. No doubt he'll be hyped and then return to being disappointing.
