50 50 game for me also.
Like Italy getting to the WC, a penalty decided it.
That said, penalty aside. England had more of the ball but didnt create enough clear cut chances. Giroud pops up and did make a half chance and the clear cut one Pickford saved.
England can be proud and I do feel for Kane - nightmares for years to come until the next big tournament.
England will get their chance again.

Itt Southgate being blamed for Kane's terrible pen and one of the worst referees I've seen in this world cup. Southgate should stay.
I think Kane should make way for Rashford as England's main number 9.

Having a foreigner as coach of the national team just doesn't work and there is no one good enough to replace him.

He really does need to think about the future now. Not hanging onto to players like Sterling, Kane, Maguire etc as they will all be in their thirties.

My beer's tasting a bit flat.
Not that I am a fan of Southgate but atleast we had a go, ref was poor and the French got a bit of luck.
Was disappointed after the game but not infuriated like after the defeat to Italy in the euro final.
Will be supporting Morocco from here on in.
Indeed. Can't believe how bad the ref was, needless to say he won't be getting the final gig.

Exactly. Literally played them exactly how all Southgates critics wanted him to. Unfortunately it sometimes just isn't enough.
Like I said earlier, unbelievably proud of all of them tonight.

50/50 game - No issues with Kane taking the penalty but I would have like to see Rashford as an out and out striker for 20 minutes or so..... French defense was all at sea and very rash at the back.
Kane just doesn't have that pace to run in behind the line anymore.....
This is not a Kane bashing comment but for me - Kane could play as a number 10, like rooney did later in his career, and Rashford up top I think would be a much better option.

What top team has he beaten in a tournament? We have the players, what is lacking is that final couple of % that a top manager brings. I've nothing against the guy but he's had his chance and he's failed at every big game.
Replacing Kane with Rashford is just laughable. Yes Kane missed but if there was another pen he'd be the player you bet on scoring.
We should have won it. They were there for the taking. Why did he bring Sterling on? What has he done this tournament and he hardly touched the ball. Southgates subs are baffling at times. Why not bring on Madison and push Kane into the box? We created little from midfield, relying on pens to win a game isn't good enough.

Not a chance in hell he'd leave Toon for the England job, no PL manager would. It doesnt matter what you achieve or how far you get, you'll always be garbage to England fans. Its a toxic position not worth the hassle.

My first World Cup was 1986. Gotta be honest, every World Cup since then has just merged into one in my mind. Are we ever going to either kick on to the next level....or just get lucky? Or is this just what we'll do forever?
Anyway, Southgate has done great and deserves a lot of credit. However, I just don't think he's the man to move us towards that final step. I'd like to see a fresh approach now.
