FIFA World Cup 2022 Quarter-Final ** spoilers ** [9th - 10th December 2022]

What would you have changed? Genuinely?

We didn't create much for the first half hour. He moved to more of a diamond with Foden at 10 and we improved.

Mount came on and immediately won a penalty. You might argue for Grealish over Sterling but that really is a toss up and Sterling is the bigger goal threat.

Not sure why sterling got a look in; he's no longer the goal threat he was. And made it worst by taking saka off, our most dangerous player. And then bringing grealish on with seconds to spare.

I dunno southgate is a nice guy and has united these group of players, but has now been found out on a few occasions. We've now blown the best opportunity we've had of winning 2 big tourneys and don't see it changing with Southgate at the realm.

At this point, I'd love Morocco to win it.
I'm with you on this one, given who they have already beaten and who they would need to beat to win the cup, they would end up needing to have beaten Belgium, Spain, Portugal, France and Croatia/Argentina. Thats a set of scalps deserving of winning the cup.

I watched until France scored then switched it off. Came back to watch them score again and Kane 'convert' the penalty. From what I saw it was the same old snore fest from England, if we were the better at some point then ok, I don't believe it, but whatever

I was partly following the game until Kane was up for the penalty then didn't bother - knew there was only one way it was written at that point.

Err why is Howe trending?

He's already stated he's happy at Newcastle.

Also I don't believe he would make at good international manager.

Part of his skill set is coaching and improving players. The team is highly drill on their jobs and fitness.

He just wouldn't get that time with the players at the international stage.

Beat Iran, Wales and Senegal. Lost against an injury hit French squad, interpret that how you will.
His England team ran an injury hit France side very close and on another day might have beaten them. France even with a few missing still look the best side at the tournament their front four are incredible strong and Giroud has the goal scoring habit!

Can't get over how awful the ref was.
He was 100% against us.

Should never referee a game ever again, his performance was bent.

The standard of refereeing in the game gets worse every year. It’s genuinely ruining the game imo, it’s getting to the point, along with the cheating that goes on, where I’m questioning why I watch it.

I'm not one for conspiracies, but I guess my main confusion (being someone that doesn't watch football other than England games) was his lack of consistency. It's really hard to understand what really is a foul. France slide in, knock our guy flying, but it's okay cause they got the ball. We do that and it's a free kick.

I don't understand how the Mount GBH wasn't blatantly a penalty. I feel he only gave it on VAR as it would have definitely been suspicious not to at that point.

All in all I thought England played just as well as France. France had the better of the first half, but I felt we had the better of the second. I don't really get the negativity. I guess it's an English thing? France are the current champs and definitely one of the best teams in the world and we held our own.

Mind you, I never really understand how professional footballers don't actually hit the target at a penalty. There are very few external factors and all goals etc are the same all over. How do you miss the target? Getting saved is less in your control, but you have to hit the target...

I thought we played well but didn’t really create enough when were on top. Saka played well. Still don’t think Pickford, maguire and Stones are good enough, and Hendo and Rice didn’t really work in the middle.

We shouldn’t complain, long gone are the days when we used to struggle to qualify, barely scrape the group stages. This is the best team in my 30odd years of watching England
