FIFA World Cup 2022 Quarter-Final ** spoilers ** [9th - 10th December 2022]

As a neutral in this I can't see how England deserved to win. France just looked better in every area. There was 15 minute period in the middle of the second half when England were all over them. But other than that France just looked sharper.

Ref was not taking soft fouls. Whilst the ref did not have a great game, players need to learn to stay on their feet and not play for the ref.

At this point, I'd love Morocco to win it.

Everytime France hit the deck he blew for a free kick so im not buying the whole "the ref isnt wasnt taking soft fouls" because he was for them but even so, the one on Saka leading up to their goal isnt soft, its just a foul. He was that bad he didnt see the clear as day foul on Mount leading to the penalty. If you need to see a screen for that you arent fit to referee.

You might need to either question your neutrality or eye sight if you think France looked better everywhere.

Or its almost as if Southgate is inept. His decision making and subs are terrible. This talented group of players have carried him
What would you have changed? Genuinely?

We didn't create much for the first half hour. He moved to more of a diamond with Foden at 10 and we improved.

Mount came on and immediately won a penalty. You might argue for Grealish over Sterling but that really is a toss up and Sterling is the bigger goal threat.

Sterling was a poor choice having spent the last 5 days in a different country. Other than that Southgate has done well again!

Yeah that's fair enough, although he could equally have popped up and scored and Southgate would have been a genius.

But if that's the worst thing that can be thrown at Southgate, then he's done a pretty good job.

But he didnt...he didnt do anything when he came on. "If thats the worst thing that can be thrown" lmao what do you mean? This is supposed to be the pinnacle of world football and hes had an absolute howler. That isn't minor.

Why not throw on Trent with 20 to go? One of the best players in the world with the ball at his feet and from set pieces. He doesnt bring him on when England need a goal? Absolute madness.

Because with 20 to go it was 1-1, we looked far more likely to score, and bringing on a player who has spent the season being a defensive liability sounds like a shocking idea in those circumstances

Seen the same moves used in two halves by england.. where’s the ream spark?

Watching in france, the french playing seemed better (i’m not normally a Football person)

Who else would you have started at centre back?

White is excellent but is too similar to Stones. Dier is a worse version of Maguire. We're weak at centre back. We have three very good right backs.
Tomori.
Dier
White

All would have done a similar if not better job.

Trent is 8 assists from being the defender with the most assists in the premier league ever, he's 24. He reached that by breaking the record for most assists in a premier league season for a defender...then he broke his own record.

If he cant get a game when you need a goal then lol.

I think we're all sat here wondering what game you were watching.

If Dier is the answer at centre back then we might as well stick with maguire who has played with stones for years and generally been pretty decent in an England shirt. I can maybe see the case for Arnold when France score the second but it’s still a massive risk as what ever else is happening he is marking one of the best players in the world and you can’t afford to gift them a third. Tomorrow is an interesting case and I’d like to see him play more for England going forward as we definitely need a centre back to emerge!

Saying Southgate has had a shocker is just silly, he’s done well again and only lost by a tiny margin to the team who look most likely to win it! I will always wish he didn’t pick three defensive midfielders but he has been a successful England manager and at least tends to pick form players in the correct positions.
