I'm not bragging, but I doubt even at even weight you have the experience or training.

Maybe not experience, but at even weight I would have age on you, 40 is pretty old! ;) :p

Do you compete in Karate or Boxing? I have tried to watch Karate but like Taekwondo it looks ridiculous and I'm left wondering why the hell these people are not just competing in K1 (I secretly know that the answer is because they would get destroyed)

What was the injury?

What Dan grade are you Castiel? Was it Higashi that you studied?

I did Shotokan then moved to Higashi, didn't find it all that different to be honest, very similar. Itching to get back into it went time allows, although boxing seems more suited to what I want at the moment, especially the fitness.

Machida has studied Karate afaik?

I suppose it's not as popular because it's based on self-defense (semi-contact) rather than all out attack.

MMA isn't going to mean you can win you against someone with that kind of size and strength advantage in a street fight, but it will help more than Aikido ever would.

I disagree, Aikido uses the opponents weight and strength against them. In a street-fight where your opponent is the aggressor it would be very effective.

The variables in a street fight are endless, but any technique that keeps your opponent off balance is a boon.

Wrestling someone to the ground only achieves one thing, you both getting hurt.

Yes Higashi, I am nihon (2nd Dan) although it was awarded a long time ago.

You raise a good point here. If you assume Aikido is effective (I appreciate for you this is a big ask), age is no barrier. Gozo Shioda was in his late 70s still embarrassing people. Hélio Gracie, too, was very active in his old age.

I quite like watching Kyokushin Karate:

This really can't be emphasised enough. On the floor = good as dead. Especially if the aggressor has friends, or the ground has glass.

I too refuse to punch people in the face in a fight :p
Just role play, bruh.

Not that old. Fitness is also relative in a fight, you have to last long enough for it to tell.

I competed at junior level in Karate. I competed in inter-service boxing, and represented the UK against other armed services in various competitions.

I wouldn't just use Karate in a fight however.

Just a demonstration, but you get the idea.

I was injured in Iraq.
