Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn

Put in an hour or so this morning from 5:00. No traffic. No queues. Got a few FATEs done. Looking forward to these teething problems being ironed out, maybe today's emergency maintenance will sort it. :)

Ended up rolling a Pugilist to go Monk myself tonight, joined Moogle as a few of you appear to be there. I'm "Elinae Afrandor" if you happen to see me about, one thing I hate is having to have a surname :p

Liking the game so far though, a lot better than I was expecting, though whilst admittedly wasn't expecting much, it has some very nice touches, the combat is a lot of fun and I'd have to disagree with points others have made to me via hearsay; being that they haven't actually played themselves but heard opinions from streamers and whatnot.

To those having throttling problems with BT internet,

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/BT/BTHomeHub2/Final_Fantasy_XIV.htm

This will work if you do it correctly (don't mess up the TCP/UDP, and forward all ports)

Setting up a custom application/game profile on the router and forwarding the ports from that link has removed all throttling for me.

Only issue I still have is seeing other players stop every few seconds while they run, but I think thats a server issue

I've done this but the stupid home hub 3 only allows one device to be assigned per application for port forwarding & ther are two of us playing:/

I did manage to play last night with no problems though using Spotflux.

Also - not sure if you guys have seen this:

We would like to make a clarification regarding our previous announcement “Regarding Congestion in Japan Data Center Worlds (Aug. 27)” in which we stated that we are preparing to increase the capacity of our data centers.

The first half of the announcement regarding login and character creation restrictions was directed towards our players who would be playing during peak hours in Japan data center Worlds.

However, the second half of the announcement regarding increasing the capacity of our data centers was meant to also encompass North American and European data center Worlds and not just be limited to Japan data center Worlds.

We deeply apologize for causing concern amongst the North American and European community due to our lack of clarity. Capacity will be increased for data centers in all regions.

Once again, thank you for your understanding and cooperation to help us welcome more players to the game.

They do care after all... yay:/

I had tried that but it didn't seem to have an effect. Went back onto the game about a couple of hours later and it was working smoothly again so either it did work or something happened to the throttling. Either way I'll see how it goes today.

Surprisingly after ~8pm I was able to get straight into Cerberus without a 'World Full' message on 2 occasions so with any luck it'll be just as reliable today when I get home ><

Digital copies pulled from sale already? I think I'll come back and look at this game in a month or so..

Important Notice About FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn - Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, we are currently experiencing extremely long wait times for users to be able to log in and play. As a temporary measure, we will halt sales of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN’s digital download products so we can accommodate all of those wishing to play. We are working to expand our server capacity in the coming days.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes.

Is anyone getting random CTD every 5 mins? Runs beautifully and then all of a sudden comes a crawl (2fps) for 10 seconds and then CTD. Becoming quite frustrating

Some people got multiple classes to 20 during the last beta phase (2 days) so it's not surprising that people did another 30 levels in 3 days!

I bet in the BETA they were actually able to log in and play the game though ;)

The '3' days we have had have been the odd hour or so, here and there of in game action, followed by 3 hour stints of trying to log on :D

Other than the obvious, really good game! Enjoying it so far, put a lot of work in to my Carpentry last night, got that to level 10 now :) with Archery at level 15.

Sure that isn't something with your comp?

Well worth leveling Carpentry if you're working on Archer imo (and Botany). Crafted myself a HQ Elm Longbow for level 18 which gave it 1 extra phys damage and 1 more vit. I am struggling to level it any higher though as without Blacksmithing to make Iron Ingots and Weaver to make Cotton Yarn I'm extremely limited on what I can craft to level it up at 16-20 and buying it off the market isn't really viable for long term.

I have finally got hold of Retainers from the main quest though. Also finished the Materia quest so I can start messing around with that now too.

Haven't seen many actual opinions on the game.... Any feedback? I'm considering getting into it, as my life is missing a MMO.

Still early days to give a fully formed and well-reasoned verdict on the game, but initial signs are extremely positive. The biggest bugbear I have coming from SWTOR is the lack of voice acting, but then having grown up playing FF games of old I begrudgingly accept it as 'nostalgia.' :p

Just upgraded to the Digital Collectors Edition for £15 through SE account management. Coupled with the fact that I paid only £5 for the standard edition, I've got myself a CE account for £20. Win!

I have to say, I'm enjoying it tremendously. It's been such a long time since an MMO gripped me so much (the last time time an MMO drew me in like this was during TBC), and I thought I had just lost interest in them after so many years. In an attempt to get back into MMOs I've spent the last couple of months either resubscribing to ones I had played in the past, trying new F2P games, or trying out ones I had played in the past that had gone F2P but none of them held my interest for more than a few days. This however... I find it hard to even tear myself away from the game before I go to bed, and now I spend all day at work just wanting to get home and keep on playing it (which again is something I've not felt for a long, long time with an MMO).

That aside I love so many things about this game - the class system, the atmosphere, the art style and music, the combat, the animations, the small attentions to detail like robes blowing in the wind or getting blown about when you cast spells, etc. there's just so much I enjoy in this game that levelling doesn't even feel like a chore and I find myself getting lost in the game's world.

It's a very well made MMO and takes the good and bad of lots of others. It doesn't try and do too much (Rift) and doesn't require any grinding (Aion). It's got a lot of lore and character to it (WoW). The most important thing in my eyes is how solid it feels, everything is implemented well and is just fun to play, this gives you a sense of trust in the game that a lot of MMOs fail to achieve. So much in fact that I'm always noticing little things that just make it better to play and show a great sense of experience from the developers. Things like mobs automatically appearing on a list once engaged allow quick targeting, shortcuts in dungeons as you clear to prevent long run backs, being able to level sync to any FATE/dungeon etc keeping all content available and fair to anyone. One downside is the lack of PvP currently, and I believe no world PvP at the moment, so if this is something you focus on it wouldn't be for you. Overall something I trust in investing my time into and no matter how long the content lasts I know I'll probably enjoy the hell out of it!

Oh my, the throttling issue has been doing my head in over the past couple of days, but it didn't do it last night!

I've attempted the above but also have a BT Home Hub 3 so not sure if its pushing through. We'll see. Anymore assistance or posts of fixes would be very welcome!

I'd quite like to see some more voice acting too! especially in the cut scenes!

Out of interest, what do you get in the CE? I'm at work so difficult to check!

I agree - it has that special quality that just draws you in.

It has been *really* frustrating not to have been able to play solidly since EA started. But like any MMO I'm pretty sure it will all get ironed out - I'm more than happy to be patient with this one.
