So i got my gladiator to lvl 15 and I can't seem to understand why the game got so much positive feedback.
Introduction was rather boring, spent a lot of time reading and running in the city, no action, no combat.
Combat is remarkably slow and boring. I only need to use 2 spells in succession. And given how boring the combat is why do all mobs have so much health. I suppose I might have been spoiled by gw2 very dynamic combat.
A bit annoyed with crafting too, I don't like it that one has to switch to crafting or gathering and go around naked with their hammer/pick.
One piece of armour was a pair of undies. Seems a bit absurd, didn't enjoy staring at a half naked buttocks of my character who looked like a mental patient who forgot it's trousers.
Have not been to a dungeon yet but there does not seem to be anything good about the game, if anything it made me appreciate how good war, conan, rift, swtor, gw2 were in comparison.
Am I missing something, the game feels so blah? Does it get much better at higher levels or the joy comes out of deep love for final fantasy universe?
I played Archer untill just before level 30, but then switched to Gladiator (starting new character) on Odin to join the OcUK bunch.
I found that, outside of instances, the Gladiator is indeed quite a boring character in single combat. Reason being is that all the starting abilities tend to be on a long CD, that you'd use in instances. (for example, damage reduction, healing increase, damage increase) all on 1-2 minutes CD's). This leaves very little room for other abilities to be added to your hotbars in the early days.
However, I found the real fun of playing the gladiator is when you join the instances. You'll find you have quite a nice rotation and start to use all of your abilities, incorporating Flash and Riot Blade becomes more important etc. At least that's what I've found so far... Currently level 18 Glad.
Compared with the Archer, who seems to have a very tight rotation of 6-7 different spells, they can all be used in normal combat as well as instances, So I found the archer quite good in normal questing etc, as stuff dies stupidly fast. but quite boring in instances as I just didn't feel as important!
The gathering classes do also annoy me a little bit, Even though I'm now fully clothed *woop* I'd prefer it if I could be gathering whilst on the move, doing quests, instances etc... The crafting classes don't bother me as much. In fact I prefer it like that rather than being able to make anything, anywhere, instantly! bit more realistic, I suppose.
In regards to the Storyline... I quite enjoyed the first bit of it. The part I really hated was being the envoy (around level 15), travelling to all three cities just to speak to somebody, found that terribly boring. However having put up with that twice now, it certainly does get better afterwards
- The next three main story quests take you to three different dungeons.
I can't comment for end game as I've not experienced it yet. But from what I've heard it is a little more complex than the standard instances.
