Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn

I played Archer untill just before level 30, but then switched to Gladiator (starting new character) on Odin to join the OcUK bunch.

I found that, outside of instances, the Gladiator is indeed quite a boring character in single combat. Reason being is that all the starting abilities tend to be on a long CD, that you'd use in instances. (for example, damage reduction, healing increase, damage increase) all on 1-2 minutes CD's). This leaves very little room for other abilities to be added to your hotbars in the early days.

However, I found the real fun of playing the gladiator is when you join the instances. You'll find you have quite a nice rotation and start to use all of your abilities, incorporating Flash and Riot Blade becomes more important etc. At least that's what I've found so far... Currently level 18 Glad.

Compared with the Archer, who seems to have a very tight rotation of 6-7 different spells, they can all be used in normal combat as well as instances, So I found the archer quite good in normal questing etc, as stuff dies stupidly fast. but quite boring in instances as I just didn't feel as important! :p

The gathering classes do also annoy me a little bit, Even though I'm now fully clothed *woop* I'd prefer it if I could be gathering whilst on the move, doing quests, instances etc... The crafting classes don't bother me as much. In fact I prefer it like that rather than being able to make anything, anywhere, instantly! bit more realistic, I suppose.

In regards to the Storyline... I quite enjoyed the first bit of it. The part I really hated was being the envoy (around level 15), travelling to all three cities just to speak to somebody, found that terribly boring. However having put up with that twice now, it certainly does get better afterwards :) - The next three main story quests take you to three different dungeons.

I can't comment for end game as I've not experienced it yet. But from what I've heard it is a little more complex than the standard instances.

That's good to hear, game does have something about it that kept me from not playing, glad it does gets better.

I'm part way through the envoy quest and decided to take a break from the story because of it. I will be finishing it when I get home from work now that I know the next bit is better, thanks :).

Yeah I was on the edge of quitting, but bundled through! ^^

I did the same thing with my first character though, picked up a few different quests, did some crafting and gathering, then went back to the story.

Rolled a char the other night on Odin. How do I go about getting in to the OCuK guild, if possible?

There is a linkshell that you can be added to, catch me online (Tom Brady) and I can invite you. from there we can get you in the guild.

I won't be on until late tonight though so one of the other guys may be a better bet :)

It got better for me, but everybody is different! :)

Hope it has the same effect on you! :D

Queue for a dungeon, switch class and do something else for a bit I would suggest. I just finished the lvl 50 main quest and am happy to report that the finale is fantastic and very FF as you'd expect.

I have to do a dungeon to progress the story which isn't happening, and to boot I'm stuck in some odd land with no quests around my level, feel lost.

Why is it not happening? Like Myshra said, just get yourself in the Duty Finder for that dungeon, then explore to the next questing area? or switch class and do some crafting?

What server are you on? If its Odin or Cerberus I'm more than happy to help you out :)

Can't wait! Only managed to get in a sneaky hour last night after training, hopefully get a bit more in tonight :)

I really need to do more Levequests. I've been hovering around the max of 100 available quests for ages now just because the only ones I've been doing lately have been level 20-25 tradecrafts from South Shroud and when they don't offer the right rewards (crystals instead of materials) they aren't really worth doing.

Yes the duty finder doesn't favour DPS well it seems. In the meantime I have started a new character in Gridania (which is way better than the other two zones) and am currently 5 levels off my main at 20 in half a day. Just wanted a character that was easier on the eye

It never does, mainly because everybody wants to play DPS, nobody wants to play tank/healer! (of the vast majority!)

This is the ffxiv I remember. Purchased and after five hours of download and constant updated crashes/fails I'm still trying to finish the download.

Oh sweet memories :p

I might be on tonight but not holding my breath! Odin right?
