Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn

Will keep an eye if they ever merge world transfers, but will be sticking on Odin at the moment as got 15 mates on that server and a FC with 500+ active members.

Yeah it will. Leve quests are just there to help level and for gil and items and some will give company seals (used later on for quiptment / items) you don't really need to bother with them if you don't want to.

Crafting if you enjoy it, then keep doing it plus a good way to earn extra cash. I would suggest you get a lvl 50 character first, as makes materials easier to get.

I have now reached about lvl18 with the archer and getting used to all the games systems! Quite enjoying it now, best mmo ive played for a while really. Seems really deep, im probably just brushing the surface atm :)

Am i right in thinking i can use my phone as a keyboard via the ps4 app? Swear i read that before and want to be more socialble etc

Haha, yeah just scratching indeed, but now you will be able to enter some dungeons.

The main points to remember when you are leveling are these:

Keep up to date with your class quests as these will get you additional spells for some and also at level 30 you will be able to transition into a bard (which is an awesome dps class). Think you need to level Pugilist to level 15 first as well and have archer 30 to become the bard.

Keep up to date with the story quest as this will not only give you good exp, it will also keep you up to date on your equiptment levels, plus it's a pain in the bum otherwise if you have to do the whole lot once 50.

Start running dungeons now, this will help you to learn how to play your class better and will also net you some nice exp. You should be able to enter these now from main story and side quests:

Sastasha Seagrot

Tam-Tara Deepcroft

Copperbell Mines

Halatali - lvl 20

Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak - lvl 24

Not too sure on the keyboard front

You can start leveling any other class you want now. Once you hit level 15 it allows you to go level any other class. All you need to do is talk to the correct guild master and then change weapon which automatically changes your class. That's the beauty you could potentially level every job on 1 character if you wanted to. Remember to keep saving your gear slots on your character so when you change jobs it auto equips rather than changing manually.

Also this is more for level 50 end game stuff, but you will want to get cross class abilities. By this what it is is the game allows you to use 5 other skills from different jobs. The sad and boring part means you need to level these other jobs to get the skills lol. But leveling a second job is a lot quicker once you hit 50 as you get a EXP bonus. While you can get through harder content without the cross class stuff, it just makes things a lot easier when you start doing the coil turns and extreme primals, plus some groups won't accept you without them.

The path you will follow if you chose to carry on and be a bard would be:

Ideal Bard (BRD) Cross-class progression in this order:

Level Archer to 15 for: Unlocking other classes.
Level Lancer to 2 for: Feint (suggest you did this if you haven't)
Level Archer to 30 for: BRD Requirement.
Level Pugilist to 15 for: BRD Requirement.
Level BRD to 50 for: Maximum level.
Level Lancer to 34 for: Blood for Blood
Level Pugilist to 42 for: Mantra (All Cross-class skills obtained)

So yeah as you can see there's a few cross class skills there from lancer and puglist which do this:

Feint level 2 lancer: Delivers an attack with a potency of 120.
Additional Effect: Slow +20%.
Duration 10s

Featherfoot level 4 puglist: Increases evasion by 25%. Duration: 10s (Effect 15% below level 14)

Keen flurry level 6 lancer: Increases parry rate by 80%.

Second wind level 8 puglist: Instantly restores own HP. Cure Potency 650. Cure potency varies with current attack power.

Haymaker level 10 puglist: Delivers an attack with a potency of 170. Can only be used immediately after evading an attack.
Additional Effect: Slow +20%.

Internal release level 12 puglist: Increases critical hit rate by 30%. Duration 15s (Effect 10% below level 36)

Invigorate level 22 lancer: Instantly restores 300 TP.

Blood for blood level 34 lancer: Increases damage dealt by 30% and damage suffered by 25%. Duration: 20s (Damage dealt bonus is 10% without level 44 trait.)

Mantra level 42 puglist: Increases HP recovery via curing magic by 20% for self and nearby party members. Duration: 15s. (Effect 10% below level 48)

As you can see the last two skills come in very handy for harder raids and bosses for other memebrs of your party :)

Bought this when it first came out, played it for about 35mins and it was horrendously terribad, i think i looked in again once they done the Realm Reborn thing but it didnt really seem much better.

How is this now? is it worth resubbing? i notice a new expansion coming, and they have added rogue / ninja, whats a good dps class to play and how active are the servers? whats the group and endgame content like?

Its a great game, they have added a lot of content in the five big patches since release.

There are melee and ranged dps classes, monk is probably the hardest melee to master since there is a lot of positional requirements in every fight, ninja is probably the easiest imo. Ranged wise Black mage is the easiest and Summoner the hardest since it has a lot of micromanaging your pet (again imo).

I think there is a site where you can check the population of various servers but pick a EU one since they are supposedly moving the actual servers to Europe. Odin is one of the busiest EU servers.

The hardest content is 8 man raids Coil of Bahamut but the true endgame is fishing :p There are also 24 man crystal tower raids which aren't difficult and quite fun.

Rogue/Ninja is a good fun class imo, but you need to reach level 10 to unlock it iirc. You also need level 15 in pugilist to unlock the ninja job at 30 iirc. The benefit of going melee is shorter queue times since the majority of dps players pick ranged (mostly black mages and bards).

You must complete all of the main story content up to and including patch 2.55 to even access the expansion so now is a good time to start. Also don't watch the recent cinematic since it has big spoilers for the 2.55 storyline.

Endgame can be a big grind for certain things like obtaining a fully upgraded relic weapon but there are easy to acquire alternatives.

They also added the Gold Saucer recently and the triple triad card game from ff8.

I was thinking of picking this up.

Couple of basic questions.

How much is the monthly sub?
There is an expansion coming out imminently - I assume you have to buy this on top of the original? If so, is it worth just buying vanilla to see if I like it first or will I be missing out on too much without the expansion?

Are there any good deals on this anywhere at the moment?

I'm on Odin, quite a popular server. You would be as well buying only the base game since you have to complete the whole story before you can access the expansion's new jobs or areas which will take quite a while. You can choose the new race at the start though if you own the expansion pack. I think there is a free trial where you can play up to level 20 btw.

I think it is about £7.50 per month for one character on one server which is all you need since you can play every class/job on the same character.

Here is a friend code you can enter at the mog station if you want and get some items I think which might help levelling: 8H42E6NK

Thanks a lot. I'll join Odin when I start over the weekend (took an age to install). My name is "ShortWarning" assuming there is a friend system.

You can play all classes with one character? How does that work??

You can learn a new class by talking to the guild leaders of each class and you can then switch between them by equipping a weapon for that class. They all have their own levels, class quests, etc

Hit level 28 Lancer last night.

Churning the first 15 levels in MAR should be easy enough to get my Dragoon! Looking forward to the advanced jobs, the dungeons are getting more interesting as is the story.

Really enjoying this, miss out a little socially on the PS4 because typing is a pain (no desire to add a keyboard to the living room) but pitch in to the FC where I can.

Yikes, 5 years

Anyone still play this? I'm bored of wow and need something new to sink my teeth in to. I want something on console as all my mates are on console. Boggo original PS4, not a Pro.

Loads of places giving it glowing reviews, "this is the wow killer" just like every other MMO over the last 15 years so big pinch of salt with that one.

My main concern is whether I'll be restricting myself on an OG ps4, or with a controller. I could always play on PC and hook up with my console mates but something about cross platform just doesn't feel right.

Is it worth a go? Anyone still playing?

There's a free trial on all systems atm so if you're keen to try it, go for it. I've downloaded it this evening and will have a go tomorrow. I'll report back at some point in case anyone cares, but it'll be a very "vs wow" opinion as it's the only other MMO I've sunk any decent time in to.
