Gutted. After a 8 week research project I handed in a 5500 word dissertation and it cost me £2.52 to bind.

Although I do have 3 * 3 hour exams consisting of 9 essays in total...

Just adding the finishing touches to mine, 10,000 words and 50 page limit + 100 page appendices.

Currently about 1000 words over with 1000 words to write so will have to chop it down.

Hoping to have it drafted by the end of the week so i can just tinker with it until hand in on 7th of May.

Then got a Viva and Colloquium on the 14th May which im not looking forward to.

Title: An Investigation in High-Pressure Waterjet Cutting

Then i have 5 2 hours exams at the end of May and then im finished with Uni.

And last week i finally got the job i wanted after 5 months of trying to secure it

The dissertations for my course at my Uni is 4k max... lol.

But I remember even when doing GNVQ ICT in Year 10 at school, I handed in an insane amount of courswork - most of it was bloody screenshots lol

Won't someone please think of the trees!?!

I knew someone who did that ICT GNVQ. Was just a heap of screengrabs, didn't really see the point in most of them!

Our Uni insisted we printed off two copies of our dissertations, and have them both bound. Really is not cheap, though luckily mine was only about half the length of the OP's!

Ended up one mark off a 2:1 for it as well  what a waste of money!

Sounds good, just working through mine now. Cross-platform Cryptography for Portable Storage Devices, 15k words. Got till the 20th, and I hate writing :)

44,000 words? Seriously?! Why?

I'll second that, it's totally overkill for an undergraduate dissertation, hell it's probably longer than most PhD papers. It made me chuckle watching all the people hand in there giant piles while I sneaked in with my 13'000 word first. People seem to get it into there heads that they need to write loads and the more they write the better it will be hence people bragging about word and page counts, when in reality the poor bloke who has to mark it will be bored before he reaches 5000 words and will probably have given it a grade before he reaches half way.

Exactly, it absolutely baffles me why people hand in virtually books for dissertations. Quality and not quantity is the order of the day.

I'm not going to knock you or your dissertation, I haven't read it and I'm neither doing the course or teaching it, but bloody hell; how did you write 40k+ words on password authentication.

Muhahaha. I don't have to do a dissertation. I've done 7,000 words analysing Tesco's annual accounts and their strategy though over two modules along with a 2,000 word coursework for Management Accounting. All in one semester :(

He may well have included a lot of coding, and diagrams if his disseration is on biometrics, software and so on.

My dissertation wasn't 44k words long, but was over 100 pages thick owing to the mathematics, coding, diagrams that I had to include.

Thats completely different, those are appendecies and don't add to the word count and are generally never even looked at by the person who marks it. If as the OP has said the main body of his dissertation is 44K words he has probably wasted a month or two of social life for no good reason.
