Finally, we're getting FTTP, woo-hoo! (it was installed in June 2024)

@Troop oh my.

For me, initial texts but then nothing. Nothing on the first intended date either.
Thankfully they turned up on the second date.

Best wishes for you, hope it works out soon

Openreach have failed to turn up again for my slotted install date/time, this is the 3rd missed install date, how is this sustainable, if they do make the next appointment on the 2nd
it will have cost them over £200 in Compensation, more if they miss it again.
Openreach are pretty useless! Unfit for purpose! Openreach never put customer first priority never is. No wonder peoples in UK hate Openreach.

What/where are peoples recommendations for good quality Cat6 leads?

Just upgraded our Vodafone FTTP from 100 to 500mbit and I’ve not realised that the ~20m cable from the ONT to the router must be crap as it’s only negotiating at 100mbit (and another device or two on the network too)

4th time lucky, all up and running 500/70 service.

What's the recommendation on moving the ont box with a longer fibre cable Vs leaving ont at the 'easy install' site and running cat6?

To update on all my missed appointment's.

Speaking to the OP engineer about the missed dates, he said the big storm hit very hard here,
they went from 70 call outs a day to over 700, due to trees and poles down.
One pole could be carrying 100 users, but the trees were the main issue.

It's working great, still surprised I have it available here in Mid Wales out in the sticks.
5G, what I had been using is great, but latency spikes spoiled the mega fast speeds.

Got around to swapping out the dodgy Cat5 from the ONT to the router yesterday having gotten back from my Christmas Holiday after upgrading to Vodaphone 500mbit. Nice to see Speed tests are consistent and a little above advertised.

MySpeed (https://github.com/gnmyt/myspeed) in a Docker container on Unraid running an hourly speedtest

^ That was May 24, Forever waiting.
Odd question but have you tried contacting Openreach via the online form as normally if you are close to being enabled they do a call back to give you some snippets of info.

Granted it's not guaranteed but between that and contacting the CEO I got passed over to the the escalated queries team since our area was meant to be in-build but got out of scoped and after a few months of waiting and back and forth over attempted installs and surveys we got there in the end :)

Looks like I might be able to move to Full Fibre soon. Does anyone use their own router rather than using the ISP provided one. As I wondering which ones are good ones to consider.

Yes, UniFi UDM-SE.

Although it's difficult to recommend anything as you haven't mentioned any requirements or budget.

My top budge is probably up to about £300. In terms of requirements I would like it to be able to provide decent wifi so that I retire my Ubiquti Amplifi HD ROuter and mesh system. I used to just have this running with an openreach fibre modem. But when that had a few issues I started using the Plusnet router with the Amplifi HD in bridge mode, I will probably getting the 500mb servcie.

Here :)

If you get the run around after the forum I would email the CEO as you will be put through to technical escalations if there is a chance of connection :)
Excellent, thank you.

Let’s see what they say.
