Fire Thread! - Stoves, Wood, Axes, Chainsaws

the multi fuel kit for mine finally turned up thankfully :D I have saw some people online struggled to source them. Seems like they tend to have supply issues in winter when people are getting them installed so people have waited months. I envisioned having to get the installer out again to remove this and send it back so I could order an alternate multi fuel. But all good now.

Had a few small fires with kindling to break it in, and did another one tonight with a few logs.

Bit chilly today so thought testing log burner after chimney being swept and new coat of paint would be a good idea.

Working perfect.

After 30 years of service the old back boiler fire sprung a leak a few months back.

So had that ripped out and a multi fuel stove fitted.

The installer I used was awesome, did everything he said he would when he would and only took him 2 days. But the stove supplier have been a nightmare, got messed around with delivery for a week, then they forgot to send the flue kit. When the fire was delivered I called them and said it says ont he box standard, I ordered the multi fuel. They said not to worry the multi fuel kit will be in the crate. It wasnt. They have said they will send it out by DPD but still waiting, fingers crossed it turns up as I will be burning more coal than wood.

They had a nightmare getting the old one out, it weighed a ton and barely fit through the door. They way they installed that back in the day was by getting it in place, then knocking a whole in the chimney above it, so they could pour in vermiculate around and above it, After decades of use, soot falling down on it and moisture from the leak it had hardened and entombed it in place.

The slate I presume it is, What's the advantage of two pieces, I specifically didn't want a line in it. Just curious?

IIRC it was to do with a single piece being more likely to crack

From getting my quote off the installer and him doing the work was a pretty short time scale, I said I wanted black slate and he said that was easy to get hold of local. If I wanted something more specialised it would have delayed things while they were ordered.

Yeah you do have to make sure the base is really well good for a single piece. Mines on top of concrete.

re linked them so they should work now.

If you will be wanting a mantle my installer told me not to buy from the stove shops.

he recomended I order mine from this place which I did so saved quite allot of money

Thank you!

Every single year for a decade. "i'll get on it next year, chop and split on the cold crisp dry mornings in the winter."

Also every single year for a decade I end up chopping and splitting in the warm autumn. Ha

I noticed STIHL have a lightweight bar for my saw that takes a fractionally larger chain. Oh and it's an inch longer so I've bought it. Hopefully it's all here before next week so I can have another session. I'm going to service the saw too, strip down and clean.

That time of year again, so off to a friend of my parents (forest manager) for 2+ tonnes of wood for £100 (and he let's us borrow his trailer).

2 x loads of ash & sycamore..

This fella didn't help much, apart from giving me a slobber bath..

Back home and ready to cut to size, or it would have been if I'd remembered to get a new chainsaw chain.
Unfortunately no one had one in stock today, so I ordered a whole new chainsaw to be delivered tomorrow
Sundays job..
