First Look: Unreal Tournament 3 With PhysX

I bought one a long time ago, never regretted the purchase. Yes its currently not doing a lot but at least i know when the software calls start coming in im already hooked up :)

Can we just lighten up on the subject, Its quite simple really - if you don't like the product DON'T buy it!

Simple enough?

I have slowly grown to dislike the PhysX card more and more. I just never see it taking off and it is much more practical to have a CPU or GPU doing the same job, and they are more than capable. The card is simply not needed and will become obselete. John Carmacks view is the same, and to argue with this guy who is one of the best and most talented programmers out there would be pretty foolish.

people are allowed an opinion on a product, and its hardly starting arguements

What a bunch of jokers.
You have not seem what the PhysX could do if the game was out & out made for it.
Even the old CellFactor demo shows that when you have the liquid & cloth made to run on the cpu its a slide show.

In another physX thread some one has managed to get the island map to work from GRAW2 on the cpu on high PhysX setting & its unplayable.

And all this still seems pretty basic to me as its tacked on just like the games now including crisys with DX10 features tacked on & people saying that they don't see much of a difference between most Dx10mode & Dx9mode in a given game.

Your just not going to see what the PhysX or DX10 can do untill the install base is the greater & the games are made out right to run on them & nothing else & then you cant please everyone syndrome will come into play like people moaning that they cant play a given game with mind blowing PhysX & gfx because they don't have PhysX/Dx10 card up to the job nore vista, but i realy want to play that game..yes but its the PhysX/DX10/Vista features that makes it what it is.
People want more but then complain about the requierments, Crysys is already showing this.

I bet some of you will be back to maon again when the minum spec for Alanwake is QuadCore cpu for its basic physics wich a PhysXcard & a singlecore could have done with out a sweat.

Bring the price down some more Ageia, this card should not cost more than a consumer purple level sound card.

Edit: was not impressed with the PhysX in the vid.

That was optimized for that Physx, I dont think the stupid physx card is worth purchasing for stuff like in Cellfactor.

I guess you need Ageia fanboy in your sig too.

A dual Core will be ok for Alanwake, Quad Core for the best effects, Quad Cores are cheap now, no problem there.

So anyone who does not agree with your view is a fanboy.. never mind.. & feel good that millions of other people also lack the mentality to see things from another person perspective & circumstance.

But it proves a point that even that crappy tech demo shows the limitation of the
cpu for real non visual only physics when forced to run on the cpu with full effects.

maybe ageia designed the game (graw2) in such a way that the cpu would never be used 100% in terms of calculating physx, in order to make out that the physx card was necessary.

they are out to make money just like every other company out there...

You could apply that trumpcard philosophy to anything that it needs this to work as indented & it needs to be proved.

“maybe ageia designed the game (graw2) in such a way that the cpu would never be used 100% in terms of calculating physx, in order to make out that the physx card was necessary.”
Very unlikely as any change like that would affect the CPU in all the other Ageia games that are CPU only.

The thing is the API used is shared between all Ageia games. Any change affects all games. If you update the API it’s updated for everything.

What you saying sounds like this to me. Ageia make most of there money from CPU’s doing physics with there API. 99% of Ageia games are CPU only and the games that are PPU enabled have 99% of players using the CPU instead. So Ageia tweak the API to not use 100% of the CPU in terms of calculating physics to make more money!

See a problem? Ageia main money is from the API being used on the CPU. What your saying hurts them.

No, simply, they want to increase sales of their cards. thats it

Thats a problem of to many people not doing their homework while continuously pushing a point that would have not been made if they knew the facts before hand.
Guilty myself with the AGP posts.

i dunno, either you misunderstand, or you have selective reading? i said MAYBE. one of the first words. you should try to judge the way in which people say things on the net, just because i didnt put a :D in it somewhere, it doesnt maen im being 100% serious.

The more CPU's and GPU's improve, the more obselete the PPU will become I'm afraid. It was a good idea, but with a very disappointing amount of support and the fact the future doesnt look too promisting either, I'd say the PPU will be forgotten in a years time.

I'm sure I never said that..
You do not have to say it or it to be so, your actions speak for them self .. your actions are your posts in them selfs.
The amount of post i make in PhysX threads are minuscule & yet as soon as i say anything positive you come with a fanboy remark which i find highly juvenile, im just sick to death of see people calling others fandoy all round the net as it used to try and win a point of view because the person has not enough confidence to post a well thought out reply or think the reply is not that strong on its own so feels the need to try & discredit the other with a saying that implys the other guy is not thinking with reasoning or logic & will defend the product no matter what because he has been sucked in by the hype & PR of a brand or product & not based on a persons personal experience of brand & product.

im sorry, but you havent contributed anything in this thread? pottsey comes up with VALID points, whether people agree or disagree, im sure we are all mature enough to cope with a debate like this? where as you just keep going on about insults and things like that. stop encouraging this thread derailing
