Fishing - Anybody doing any ?

got to go to bed soon... pick an evening high tide next time Nick :( :p

High tide is mid day! ;)

Also tried spinning reel + 10lb mono + 8/9 fly rod with the smaller lures (i.e. the 7 & 10oz tobies) .. out performs the little spinning rod when casting so that's coming along instead..

Twas a grand day.. the sun shining.. the wind blowing from the north over the top of the wall.. many thanks cainer for driving.

I will be honest - I blanked (other than a starfish).

I was thinking more predator fish/squid.. reality was that it was a day of little fish caught using smaller hooks..

Mackerel tonight... then plaice tomorrow (already gutted and prepped). Surprised me the blighter was still alive when I put him in the sink!! A quick sharp blade to the brain dispatched him.

bit of bad angling from me there :/

Reading up on the web they're a bit tough to dispatch. However I think that's because people assume that their brain is between their eyes.. however their skull twists during growth but the main parts of the anatomy stay the same:

http://www.bogleech.com/flatfish.html

The brain is not between the eyes as such, so best flip them over and trace the backbone line to locate the brain which is closer to the boney ridges than between the eyes. It doesn't help that the top side naturally gets some armour from the gill plates.

There's documented survival up to 10 hours out of water. As they don't have enough mass/stiffness to dispatch they need a priest to stun and bled out. Alternatively a bait/fillet knife to the brain.

it was a Flounder!, surprised i didnt notice it was different from the Plaice at the time tbh.
im itching to get back down there again already, if we'd both fished with lug worm all day with small aberdeen hooks im sure we'd have caught a load between us

Lovely weather yesterday, lovely weather today.. so I finally got around to washing down the rods and equipment (including WD40ing the guides).. only to have a 5 minute deluge rain shower out of the blue. So it's now not only the rods that are soaked and clean again..

weathers looking pretty good for mon/tues next week, still the same NE breeze so the sea will be flat calm, high tides at 3:18pm mon, 4:10pm tues, might go back for another go at the Plaice, its a small tide though so worms might not be available :/ (il only go if i can get some worms)

You could try some Isome worms such as berkley gulp. Once you've finished for the session you just bung them back into the liquid to recharge.

Probably a good idea to have some in reserve for times of no live bait.

The Mrs said if I can guess the birthday present I can have it early.. as it may be useful for monday.

So I am the proud owner of an Icefox 1080P HD waterproof camera (30m) :D so next time I have it available for recording footage on the boat and it can be lowered down at the marina :D

nice, it'l give me something to put on my youtube channel ive just created :D

What's nice about the model is that it has a LCD display built in. So you don't need to mess around with SD cards read into phones or laptops etc - immediate feedback.

Considering using an extending aluminium pole for the initial test.

Garden Pond-o-vision..

EDIT: Lug worms reserved at the Tackle shop, roll on monday :D

Man I suck at shore angling.. 3 rods and second blank session.

Thank you cainer for driving again :)

I had a look at the camera footage - it's greener than a green thing. Not surprising that fit can't find jack at the moment.. there must be about 2-3foot max visibility.
