Fishing - Anybody doing any ?

^^ do it, but go east wall this time :D

Could have gone on a boat trip for the money the west wall cost me in snags lol (almost).

I bought myself 5 new 2oz weights for the spinning rod, a couple of 4oz grip lead for the bigger rod for use with 2oz+ baits :D Also got a pack of silver spinner spoons for adding to lures and a 21g Zulu floating lure (can drop to about 5ft on retrieve).

I think all I ever did on the marina was lose gear when my dad used to take me there.

The marina just isn't what fishing is about for me. I'm not that fussed catching

If I caught something big I think I'd mess my knickers

Just did two sets of mackerel lures, with the two packs I have - I think they will do.

One a actually a rig made of size 2 salmon hooks, tied flies for the hell of it :)

popping over to Frinton on sea one day this week to see my mum, she's looking after my niece & nephew atm so were going to take them down to Walton pier to do some crabbing, might take a rod with me, only trouble is its very shallow and the water has allways been clouded with sand when ive been there before, dunno if its worth it :/

Local Woking angling ship (normally does carp) is having a 50% stock clearance as it's closing.

They have a small corner for sea and predator fish.

Got myself...
Two 150g soft lure sea trout - this is this about 21cm (these are fun when you're wrecking)
Two 40g spoons - one silver and one smaller green/yellow
A 21g spoon - large, slim and has a holographic crinkle
Grip leads (including a gemini style), 2oz, 6oz and 8oz breakaway leads etc
Beads, swivels.

So roll on september.. got a big plastic fish to try and see if there's anything big down there! It's like a very large sidewinder with a waggly tail. I may end up getting the marker pens out and colouring them later but for now it'll be sandy/pearl.

They had Rapala lures too.. but if I'm on the boat then it's normally unlikely people like you doing surface stuff when there's lots of tide (tends to cross lines easily). I have one already but normally it's all sinking stuff hence the spoons as you can add those for added attraction to things.

any idea why they are closing? hope its not due to lost trade because of mail order companys :(
its much better to go into a shop and see the tackle your buying rather than blindly ordering online

If you're careful mail order isn't really cheaper, if you go into a tackle shop with a blank cheque book and no idea it's quite expensive.

Most are diversifying now, lots have their own lakes or run competitions. The one I go to in Eastbourne are affiliated with a boat and a lake, run competitions all year and sell second hand gear as well. I don't think there is any money in just selling gear.

Anyway, fished Sovereign Harbour Saturday, mackerel and a couple of red gurnard. Lots of bites as soon as the bait was in, had the kids and wife whilst trying to do a BBQ as well so only had one rod out.

20 odd miles of beach, the whole ocean and still some pillock paddles into my line with his kayak. He got a few words and his wife told him to get away in the end. Donkey.

Ahh not sure about why. Just know the property is sold, the owner is top end of 60s so probably making retirement plans. The guy that serves has got himself a new job at a local school, so it's good.

Probably the fact that they can't make the money out of the small stuff and people order rods etc online.. but that's only speculation.

Ahh Eastbourne.. think I've been there twice.. one being born.. the other a dentist appointment as a nipper before moving north of watford gap.

Decided to buy myself a few jigs for the times when bait is being a pain in the butt. I think I could write a book on the current forms of jigs at this rate!

I'm looking at getting:
* high speed vertical jigs to cut through tide down deep. These would have a thin profile with a couple of assist hook on the top. Decent and then jig up.
* slow jigging - getting something around 200-250g for bottom jigging slowly. The technique basically sees the jig dropped to the bottom, lifted a meter or so above, then jigged so that the jig flips side to side without really going up or down. Possibly looking for "R-type" rather than "S-type".

Usually those styles of jigs need a pure vertical line to do the business. These will go along with my 400g Norwegian muppet pirk.

I may also get some:
* casting jigs - cast and pull horizontally through the water column
* micro jigs - for doing 20-30m water with the spinning rod. The jigs are like their big brothers but are between 20-80g depending on the physical dimensions.

lots of flatties caught at Seaford last night and Cod at Hayling island according to WSF forums. i need to get out again soon, ive got a week off and a mon-fri caravan booked for Selsey in the near future.. maybe il get a Cod or two off the beach, fingers crossed :D

Major stingray caught of Chesil..

Looking forward to the forthcoming trip.. should be 200-300ft depth so it looks like it will be one down tide and using the spinning rod on the surface.

Always wanted to do winter boat cod fishing. Recommendations welcome. Could make it a weekend trip if necessary

winter Cod fishing is inshore, ledgering with bait (3-5mi out)
summer cod fishing perking over wrecks is more fun but costs more as you'l be ~20mi offshore,
you really want to fish from Brighton or anywhere to the East of there for boat fishing for Cod

Seems to be the rough prices for brighton/langstone are:
£45-50 for a day doing inshore - often you'll move around between areas depending if there's bites etc.
£70-£80 for a day wrecking far offshore.

That's not including any kit hire, bait etc.. although talking to most skippers will give you an idea if you'll get a pack of squid etc bundled in etc.

The replacement hot orange sidewinder and the new pearl sidewinders arrived a couple of days ago, so back to strength with the lures. Will use the pearl for bass if there's any around..
