Fishing - Anybody doing any ?

wind forcast suggests the marina walls will stay closed for the next week :/
wouldnt mind getting another session in before Xmas but it'd need a few calm days before the Plaice return i feel

Yeah.. heard back that I got pipped to the job.. last decision too based on someone having a little more experience than me. 19 weeks, 3 phone interviews, three face-to-face interviews later + two weeks.. At least I have closure on that.

Applications, Applications, Applications :)

^^ and look at the white water comming over the end of the east arm ;)
edit: it was the west arm i was looking at,
this is why BM is closed..

gutted mate :/
but on the bright side you should be able to also get another fishing trip in before Xmas? :)

Pretty much settled on the idea of getting a Shimano Spheros 6000 for boat uptide and marina wall casting. Probably load 30lb braid on it.

However until the job sorted everything on hold :) but I'd probably freeze on the wall (sounds like the Game of Thrones)..

from the tacklebox's twitter feed..
wed 9 dec , walls will remain closed probably until mid week (@dec16 ) while calm there is algae build on both walls & a full damage inspection will be needed

but the wind forcast is quite strong from the 17th onwards lol, oh well, might not get another trip in before crimbo afterall :(

Yup.. I may get a xmas trip in.. but that depends on the inlaws :D

Jan time.. fingers crossed I'll have some busy activity on the job front, either that or I'll be starting work down the local Sainsbury's.

So the wife+her parents + my parents have all chipped in - santa will be bringing me a Shimano Spheros 6000 sw :D My first tarty reel - it will replace the n-th hand old Penn 160 multiplier that I got for £20.

It will take ~200 yards of 50lb braid, or 300 yards of 30lb.. so it will have ample capacity for both marina wall casting (with bigger rods later) and has the 'crankiness' to cope with any fish in UK waters.

Here's the spheros 6000 coping with a 100b tuna

And the spheros 6000 coping with a sail fin marlin

So it's likely to be able to cope with rays, tope and conger on the untide rod.. but also cast a reasonable distance on the wall or beach :D. Later I'll look at getting more of a distance bass rod (possibly a daiwa) but for now that's me sorted :D

Tackle guy in Eastbourne told me it would happen a few months ago, something about 7 year cycles, he said that the numbers would be less but the size would be up then next year both size and numbers drop off a cliff.

Sounds like a life cycle.

I know bass live to about 7 years old but according wikipedia atlantic cod can live for 25 years with maturity at 2-4 even 8 (atlantic) years old. It could have been a warm or cold year that has caused a cycle.. as the water temps alter the speed of maturity. It may be a cycle of a predator or prey fish that causes it too..

Used the be a keen fisher a couple of years ago biggest catch from a peir was a 18lbs smoothhound

Keep reading this thread any you may find yourself doing some fishing again :D

Never caught a SH from shore.. only on the boat. Would have been interesting fight.. probably go Tope hunting next year too :D

Was looking, ahead of time, for a beach caster.. seems that as bass are in the surf.. often close in.. that the little spinning rod will do for that. So that means the search is on for a beach caster.. the Abu Aspirit 13' was suggested as it can also do heavier bass spinning. It will do 4-7oz according to users and will get decent distance without being a hard to cast stiff stick. So.. that's sat being thought about for next year ;)

Already have two companies lined up for Jan for interviews.. :D

ive had loads of SH on the boats upto around 14-15lb, and a dozen or so off the shore upto around 9lb..
much different fight, from the shore i just use 1 rod when targeting them as they are pack fish and you really dont want 2 on at the same time as even a 5lb'er can rip the rod out the holder and get dragged down the beach
good fun :D should start to see them along the south coast towards the end of May with the end of June probably the best time

so, did santa get you what you wanted? :)
still gonna be a while before any "comfortable fishing" can be done, forcast still shows lots of strong winds ahead,
im not knocking these strong S/SW winds though as its gonna = a lower gas bill next month :)

Indeed it Santa did :D Been fishing with the father-in-law three times too (blanked 3x too!).

Looking at google looks like I'm getting 100m+ (5oz, 50l shockleader) but getting further with attempting a heavier weight ended up with a crackoff today.. I need 80b shock leader!

Also got myself a couple of Daiwa surface minnows (31g work well with the little rod).
