Fishing - Anybody doing any ?

Interesting comments in this review/blog about using longer spinning rods: http://activeanglingnz.com/2015/09/24/are-longer-rods-better-on-the-flats/

My first long wand was 4 piece 10’ (3.04 metre) rod rated for lures between 15 – 60 grams. It was a fairly heavy model (320 grams) designed not just to be a lure casting tool but also for light surf casting with bait.
...
While this rod was excellent at lifting the line off the water and re-depositing it upstream it was too heavy to use for more than 1 ½ hours at at time. Muscle fatigue became a constant companion.

Love is... being given both permission to go wrecking on Feb 14th*.. and your mate (desperate for another partner in crime) paying for the trip because you can't afford it!

* Although she's just on face time telling her mum about it ... and her dad is laughing..

Now heard that the father in law has caught TWO bass using the same lure I have and suggested he get: http://www.decathlon.fr/cuiller-triplebar-id_1626283.html the 40g version..

Will be taking the little 20-50g spinning rod and trying some deep water wrecking..

il weigh my Carp rod and my Bass rod, i know i can chuck my Carp rod around for a couple of hours no bother but my Bass rod gives me arm ache within 30 mins, so it will be interesting to see the weight difference,
although i know that rod/reel balance is important to make the tip feel light and i think thats a problem with my Bass rod.. the reel is too light :/

EDIT: another point, ive been using my Carp rod with Mackerel feathers and a 2-3oz weight, your average spinner is going to be lighter than that so even my 11ft 2.25tc Carp rod would be overkill

wrap up warm :D
i thought inshore ground fishing would be more productive than the wrecks that time of year?

Hehe I think I'll have a couple of hand heaters going, plus the rubberised gloves.. along with about 5 layers.. and three on the lower half! It'll be lures as far as I know and I hope the ones near the wrecks are larger..

Hopefully I've defrosted the return conditions..

seems to have been rather windy for the last couple of months, and looking at XCweather its still gonna be windy for the week ahead :/
itching to get out

Me too.. Oddly I was mentioning that I was due to go wrecking and the pirking etc.. and one of the guys on the forum volunteered a DIY pirk. Turned up today through the post and there's three 180g (6.3g) powder painted pirks with two assist hooks each. The agreement I have is to post some photos :)

Looking forward to it now.. that weight is just starting to get down to the bottom with braid.. once the tide picks up adding a small lead on the bottom will help.

Went through all the kit today readying for the next trip.

got a few caravan holidays booked up for this year down at Selsey :smug:

all mon-fri 4 night stays outside of school term time so should be nice n quiet..
and hopefully the weather will play ball... as the beach faces due SW it tends to get the brunt of the prevailing wind and can get very weedy

16ft rod.. get over the top of the weedy surf?

Been eyeing up the Daiwa Supercast 13 or 14. Second hand they're about £100-120 with some real bargains of unused kit out there too.

Also made the decision that if the job offer comes through (fingers crossed) I'll order myself a Fladen floatation suit.. will be good for those ****** cold days.. coupled with these gloves will mean colder conditions will be fine:
http://www.decathlon.fr/gants-textile-enduits-zabal1mm-id_8242552.html

They have a waterproof grippy front and the back is elastic. Good for fishing due to the grip and the wind resistance. I put some electric tape over the finger for full spool casting.

Hmm so I have SOWMBO's approval on the floatation suit.. should the trip to Brussels prove a good.. However according to her she views the idea of a Daiwa Supercast 13ft fixed spool (used thus about £100-120) the same as shoes and handbags.. :(

If the weather stops the upcoming wrecking I may be tempted by a little trip to Langstone just next to the sand bar (not going to try it - I don't want to be cut off!). Have to see.. there's a nice deep spot about 70-100m out.. not sure I'd reach it out the little 14ft beginner beach caster but I'm wondering if there's anything lurking that will take any smaller fish I'd catch. May even try some squid jigging - as they're appearing...

i tried fishing just along from the Ferryboat inn at Langstone several years ago, the tide pull was immense! packed up after 30 mins lol
@nick, got your email but been busy today so il reply later.. just nipping out for Pizza ;)

up to 1400 HT .. means only the outflow.. beyond that I bet it's mental!

its nice and calm down at Selsey today looking at their webcam, cant wait to get back down there :)
they have 2 webcams, one pointing east the other west... http://beautifulbeach.bunn-leisure.co.uk/webcam.aspx

think they have some rain on the cam facing west

webcams at the top of the beach as indicated...

the webcams are handy for checking the state of the tide/surf/weed before going down,
and yes... that is a lot of caravans :o

some smoothy fishing here at Selsey (starts ~11 minutes in)

All worried it could be 50/50 at the moment for the trip out... weather looks like the wind is picking up (when the tide and wind oppose you get nasty chop).
