Fishing - Anybody doing any ?

just back from Selsey, with the northerly wind we had all week the water was gin clear so didnt catch much off the bottom, just 2 baby smoothys and a whiting,
saw some whitebait splashing near the shore so put some feathers on and ended up with 29 Mackerel, 8-9 small Bass, a couple of Scad and a Garfish!

Nice catches! Very jealous!

Work has been an absolute **** this week so no chance in getting out :/ The Mrs is away sunday IIRC so tempted to go to brighton and lob some feathers/lug/squid before the water chills down..

Nice catches - the smooth hounds I got were about the same size as your little one - it may be a big bait but they tuck in regardless! :)

the first one i caught on Mackeral which i found a bit odd, they were both the same size, pic 1 looks bigger just because theres nothing to judge the size against

word has it that more bays might be opening up in the next few days,
only 1-12 have been open for the past few months but theres talk of it opening up 1-28,
if so then it would be worth a visit and there should be plenty of flatties about, doubt id fancy it on a weekend though

bays 1-29 are now open, apparently 100+ keeper size Plaice were caught from 6 bays yesterday :o

When out for an afternoon fishing in Tenerife last week. I only caught one stingray of about 10lbs, we had a pair of Amberjacks on the sounder sniffing around our bait but they weren't feeding.

It was weird fishing in 70m of water with hardly any tide, gear was dropping straight to the bottom.

Trolled about a bit, I watched the sounder go from 70m to 600m in the space of about half a mile. We spotted Yellowfin Tuna jumping out the water but no lookups, then when in close to shore to look for Baracuda. One chap caught a small one.

Was out of hayling island last sunday in the solent for whiting, polk, rays etc.. sun, calm.. but tide run in the morning was 18+oz of lead couldn't keep bottom.. later on it was fine with 5oz and the spinning rod.. lots of fish :D

Sorry not really other than a couple of sunny shots (none of fish).

I was using feathers with a thin slither of squid - pretty much every cast I had something (or lost the bait). Some surprisingly large whiting/polk on the feathers.

Also had a some on the lures (I had a larger bait out and put a lure out from the leader as the tide was strong enough to keep it off the floor).

Just out at the beach for a sneaky afternoon with the father-in-law - just took the Vecelli. Got a small bass (returned) from the surf on lug. Very happy with this rod - nods in the surf but show the little bites too. Managed a crack off with the 30lb braid wind knotting causing the 80lb shock leader and 170g lead to go sailing off into the distance.

As I've been using the little 8ft rod with it's hyperloop 4000FB with large boat fish (wreck pollack+2 large polk at the same time for example)... I figured a little upgrade.. so I now have an Exage 4000FD (with second spool) that I can use - it's all spools but the majority of the rest shares the 'plastic' with the hyper loop but it feels more solid and certainly smoother.
