Fishing - Anybody doing any ?

Like you say its perfect for if you are on a walk and come across water and decide to have a go.
yep, often get a bit bored in evening, hike on my own and other than taking some photos and cooking some grub not much to do. Seems like this would be a good time killer and something to do, and if I get some extra protein even better.
found this from the guy who actually made it, shows two methods working, but not how to set it up and what's on each line.

I have googled but cant find much at all, other than creating hobo style lines.

As i said, you might get some small silverfish, though you might have to add a thinner line at the end as the line looks a tad thick for small hooks. That float looks like it has a bit of weight to it, so if the water is fairly well stocked private fishery, then you might be able to get it out to any big fish on the surface with a practised swing and a size 8 hook. Would just tie the hook on the end and add a shot weight a few inches from the hook if you want it to sink quicker. I use to do this stuff on holiday at the beach where waters were teeming with fish.

If it is a wild stream or natural lake rather than a fishery, i would probably stick to size 14 hooks and maggots/corn and maybe even change the float for something less buoyant to see the small bites.

If you want to up your game, there are plenty of fun little setups that will do the trick.

31cm long when stored away, lightweight and a lot of fun if you manage to hook anything of decent size!

Looks like it can be just clipped onto your bag or belt too and have it setup ready to go. Would be nice hiking a stream and seeing a school of fish within cast reach in 30 seconds.

yeah that would work out much better than a handline, looks like a pretty good compact bit of kit, showing as OOS on that link now but im sure there will be others on there

Got out on Sunday for the first time this year, took the ole' man to fish Drayton Reservoir.

I ended up with 5x 15lb Mirror's, the ole' man had his best day ever...10x 15lb Mirror's having never had a double figure carp before in his life. Was an epic day!

sounds like a great day out, the lakes i used to Carp fish at you'd be lucky to catch one a season :o

I live near a lot of easy lakes and cant help but feel there is a lot of charm going to an old lake which you not only have to work to get a fish but looks like a natural old lake, rather than a lake on a well trimmed golf course. It is nice to catch regularly and a cracking day of constant fish is unforgetable but i am put off some easier waters as fish condition tends to be poor and day-trippers care less about their surroundings than regular members.

Done a 2kg lot of boilies for this weekend. Gone for a combo of some classic flavours that have not seen use in these waters for years!

Tutti frutti, coconut and tigernut flavour boilies. Or Nutti frutti as i am naming them!

I always found Tutti frutti had great impact initially because of the sweet fruity sent but that was about it, while tigernut/coconut is high in protein and also nice smelling and i like to believe animals enjoy and are attracted to nutritious and high energy food.

So a lot of the dough was made with coconut flour, tigernut meal, flavoured with sweetners and fruitiness.

i always preffered a dark red fishmeal based boillie, then glug them in Salmon oil, only in the summer though as oily baits dont work well in the winter.
you'd know if the fish got down on your bait as you'd see an oily patch on the water surface

There are some greedy chub in the water that some rogue fisherman introduced a few years ago. They have flourished from all the carp baiting and anything fishy and oily often leads to them eating all the hand outs and taking your bait. I didnt mind at first when i accidentally caught some on halibut pellets but their mouths are so big that even the small ones disturb a swim when they grab your bait and run.

Going next week to a stocked lake, silver rainbow trout, haven't been for a couple of years. Not a lot of fight from fish, not sure if will return or not, depends on size.

Cheap rod and will try corn, worms or powerbait.

Should be ... IIRC I booked some vacation time but work is going to start getting stupidly busy with a deadline coming up.

i sent you an email a few days ago about it, im off down there on monday, the weather forcast is still looking ok
