*** FM17 thread ***

It is superb isn't it. I can't fault it actually. It's as solid as a rock for me, not a single crash or oddity. I've seen some spectacular stuff in the match engine which I've not seen in over 2000 hours in 16.

But this lower league stuff is difficult. I have 9 points and it's half way through the season. I just cannot get anywhere. I need a tactic but it would seem the tactics have changed format from 16 to 17.

Solid pre release , not had any problems either.

Runs smooth, considering I have all the leagues loaded too :).

Injuries are the big put off for me, I don't mind a couple but when all your key players get injured, it always seems months on the treatment table. Half the first 11 out injuries just isn't right.

This has been defended to death by SI. Apparently it is realistic. I haven't a clue if it is or not. You can hire sports scientists now who are supposed to prevent repetitive injuries and point out particular weakneses etc. I haven't got any on my team yet so I can't tell if it works.

Indeed, while every team will pick up injuries; half your first team out after the second game of the season seems a bit off.

I know the standard defence 'the number of injuries is realistic', but I just do not buy it. It seems better by the release of the later transfer updates/updates, so it is clearly something that is fixed.

Oh absolutely, but that's not really the spirit of the game :p. The game updates clearly reduce the overall rate of injuries.

In real life, our start to last season saw the following injuries to our starting eleven:

- star signing out for the season in first game
- AML out for 6 months
- RB out for 4 months in total (two separate injuries)
- CM out for 4 months
- STC out for the season
- CM break his foot, then break it again later in the season
- Best player also broke his leg and missed the final third of the season

I'd say FM can be very realistic in such instances.

I've been using the regen hair mod from FM15/16 and it seems many of them don't line up correctly :( Hopefully it will get updated, that's one of the absolute must have mods for me, especially in a long term save where everyone is regen!

Really impressed with the performance on 64bit, processing times are immensely faster and the whole thing just seems quicker and snappy when navigating around.

Yet Leicester won the league on minimal injuries to their first eleven; so one example of each extreme.

I think the hair mod may happen eventually but his kickstarter was blown out of the water :( The guy posted a while back he was keen to integrate the regen hair with the vitrix skin. I'm not sure if either will appear for 17.

I'm playing as Ayr in the Scottish championship. It's their first season in the league and they were expected to struggle but not as bad as this. I got no money and no chance :) I originally started with the same formation I used very successfully in 16, but it's not working at all in this. I've gone back to a counter defensive 4-4-2, with a few instructions, to keep it as simple as possible. It didn't help that I lost both my goalies for 6-10 weeks, and couldn't get a loan from anywhere. I ended up using a central defender, and a a 16 year old who was as useful as a chocolate teapot :D

Jesus, sounds hard. Yea, loans are your best option if you've no money, youngsters from the Scottish PL. Try Craig Thompson & Greg Hurst from St.Johnstone, they would be willing to play in the championship. I'd go one up top for a counter tactic, 4-1-4-1.

Maybe try 4-1-4-1. Counter/Flexible/Higher tempo/close down more/ exploit wings & mixed passing. Just my 2p's worth..

But it proves that such a number of injuries aren't rare.

Eh? I would argue that having half your first team out injured is rare :p, or at least as rare as having your entire first eleven get through an entire Premiership winning season with relatively little to no injuries.

The truth is that there are injuries, but I would argue not this frequently. It is the same with every release, as the game is updated injuries become slightly more 'realistic'.

I think the other problem is we're much more prone to pushing our players in training and games too hard too early in FM.

I always went straight in with fairly heavy fitness training at the start of preseason, and it usually resulted in some muscle problems in training up until the first month or so of the season, but I considered the long-term benefit worth it (we always finished the season strongly while most other teams faltered with tiredness and injuries at the tail end of the season).

I don't know about anyone else, but I also never play players that have a minor injury whereas in reality they'd face a fitness test and either pass or fail, and if they pass you'd stick them on the bench if they weren't fit enough to start (or in the case of Diego Costa's hamstrings, you'd start them anyway and he'd come off after 20 minutes).

In reality you'd presumably start pre-season with gentle work, building up to near full-fitness when the season starts in order to manage injury prevention better, but in reality you do get serious injuries at the start of seasons too - how many times have players been injured in August or September and have been out for a period of months and even the season?

Getting into the swing of things now I've settled on a tactic. 18 games in and I'm top of the Championship (as I'd expect with Newcastle's squad to be fair) and I've just beaten Everton 4-3 after extra time to reach the semi final of the League Cup. To top things off I've just been given an extra £14.5m to spend in the January transfer window :D

There are lots of little changes this year that add up to a much more streamlined experience. I particularly approve of getting advice from your staff thematically in your inbox rather than having the backroom advice meeting thing. I also like how if you promise to sell a player if a 'reasonable' offer comes in you actually have to tell them what you would consider a reasonable offer.
