Focus CC3

Ford miles are different to Audi miles in terms of wear and tear ;)
Fair point. Don't think I'm not listening to the advice that I'm getting in this thread just because I don't seem to agree. I'm looking at the online brochure for the Audi and yes, it's better than the CC3 but it's too much car for me. I like what I see with the CC3 because it can be a decent car for everyday use but it can become special when you take the roof off. Believe it or not I wouldn't take offence at being called Dagenham Dave or Mondeo Man :D

It's as much about the driver as it is about the car sometimes.

Can I just ask, what equivalent cars have you driven?
Certainly. Prepare to be underwhelmed!

Metro City, Sierra, Mondeo, Focus, Megane is what I've owned, in order. Other family members cars that I've driven have been Cavalier and Vectra (which is IMO a very nice drive, certainly compared to my Megane) and I've also driven Post Office vans :p

okay couple of points:

if you like the cc3 that’s all that matters, it doesn’t need to be justified to anyone else end of.

However, you came asking for advice and that’s what your getting - there are other cars that for the same money are better for you. Second hand is the way to go unless you have a lot of cash, or are going to be doing huge mileage for a long time. the fact is one of the other cars suggested second hand, from a dealer, will come with full service, warranty and you wont be able to tell the difference between that and a new one (except the plate and your head)

i just bought a nearly new (3k miles) focus ST and it was a good 8k cheaper than getting one brand new

Now thats the kind of car that I'm prepared to go for second hand. My Megane was similar and I was well chuffed that I got a nearly new car for what I thought was a decent price.

The most frustrating thing that I've had on this thread is that the main contributors only seem interested in drawing comparisons between much more expensive cars and dissing my choice whereas nobody has mentioned that there might be an issue with the windows or roof on the CC3 leaking when the car is wet ior it has been raining. Which was basically the kind of response I was looking for when I started the thread.

actually looking at the prices, was only 6k cheaper :(

you can get the audi a4 as mentioned for under 16k from dealer with less than 20k mileage which is nothing in the grand scheme of things

and an 06 318 ci BMW with 13k mileage, again from dealer

(looking at other options now)

Some horny bird might've got off on the gear stick for all I know.

So you're willing to spend £16k on a Focus, just because a horny bird might have ****ed the gearstick of an Audi A4 Cab.? LOL Worst. Logic. Ever.

How do you know a horny dude didn't *do* the gearstick whilst the Focus was being made in the factory?

How much abuse do you think a 20k mile Audi A4 will have had?!

All i can see is that you're set on getting the Focus and even if the Audi dropped to 10k, you'd still prefer the Focus.

No offence, but you don't know enough about cars to make your disagreement credible!

What does that even mean? The A4 Cab isn't some kind of exotic Ferrari you can only get out once a year. It IS an everyday car that you can drop the roof from and have a fun time!

I think that when you've got to the point of saying things like "it's too much car for me", it shows you clearly have no intention of getting anything else but the Focus.

I hope you get on well with the Focus, but just know that it is no where near the car you could have had, in every sector.

My Focus ST is the first new car I have owned for a serious period of time, and I honestly cannot see the british fascination with buying new, especially when you consider my car isnt much different 3 years and 80k on, interior is as good as new as is the Engine.

If a poxy Ford is that good, Imagine how good a low miles Audi is likely to be, I think your position is some what clouded by the 'oooh look shiney new car' syndrome.

I'd never buy new with my own money, never.

shhhh dont knock new car buying too much otherwise in a couple years i wont have anything almost new and shiney to buy

The Swatch that I have on my wrist tells me the time. It's ok, it even looks nice but it's not a Rolex. I have no desire for a Rolex.

I hope that that goes some way to making some sense of what you don't understand.

But i'm assuming you didn't pay Rolex money for your Swatch!

This is what you're doing with your cars. You're spending Rolex money on a Swatch.

I hope that goes some way to making sense of what you don't understand. :)

Classic motors thread, where the OP wants advice but already knows that he wants to **** money down the drain on a focus with a fancy roof and an astronomical price to match.

Stop thinking and talking, and JUST LISTEN. Then go out and test drive some other cars, not old 80s and early 90s rustbuckets. How on earth you can call them viable alternatives is beyond me.

Just go out and test drive an A4 cab, it is free after all, and you will prefer the way it drives and feels over the blandmobile that is the focus CC.

I think the problem that people can't get thier head around (including me) is that in watch terms as you put it, you are spending close to Rolex kind of money and ending up with a tarted up swatch.

If you were spending 8-9k on a Focus CC this thread wouldn't be 4 pages long (for the gayers).

The kind of money you are spending will get you a car that is far superior in every single possible way.

Ive driven a £21.5k Renault Megance CC that was almost brand new. It was good at a time when I had a Megane coupe, and had only driven other cars like a VW Polo, a Renault Megane hatchback or a Citroen C4.

I've since driven other cars and ended up spending £10,000 on a 5 year old BMW with over 50,000 miles on the clock. I'd do the same everyday of the week if I was given the option again. The 2 previous owners could have had a bondage session with a guest appearance from my gear stick for all I care, but I wouldn't swap it for the world.

EDIT : Gaygle - Great minds think alike ;)

mr tommo I heard they invited the hand brake too! The steering wheel controls were frigid though and said no.

I'd post something constructive but I fear it would be wasted. Plus I am quite happy with my contribution so far here.
