Focus RS -Would you? And which colour

Midlife crisis - perhaps that's what it is, cheers mate! ;)

I think the RS has a superb combination of driving experience, practicality and almost reasonable running costs (checked out the servicing costs which seem OK). Like the Evo but its running costs are diabolical.

You talking new or old Evo? The X is no more expensive to run than the RS.....

I've looked there too matey, seems a facelift ST-2 (2008 onwards) with less than 10k miles can be had for about 13.5K. A great car at that money!

From where?!

Two local dealers have ST3s, both 2008, and one is up for £18,600 and the other is up for £18,995.

When I was looking for my five door, I couldn't find a five door ST3 facelift really worth looking at for under 16k.

This is my issue with the new RS

at the price they are commanding at the moment, you really have to have fallen in love with it above all else.

This is BMW Z4M territory, and prime Subaru / Evo money as well. There are just so many special cars for this sort of money its unreal.

I really do suggest you go do some test driving. If after weighing up the costs of owning the other cars, you still only want a hot hatch then fine. But the fact of the matter is the RS isnt that fast when compared with cars like the Evo X , which are very similar money, albeit maybe a few years older.

Now, i assume since you're looking at dropping over £27,000 on a car, you're not short of a few ;)

Nice list of cars matey. All hard earned cash. Perhaps odd I know but I'd be reluctant to spend that kind of dosh on high milers.

Out of that little list the Evo then the Subaru (Love the BM but not chucking cash at something with that many miles, although I know it'll go and go and go).

As far as I understood it the Evo commonly gets less than 20mpg and is renowned for high running costs??

TBH if i had 507bhp 5.0l V10 under my foot i couldn't give a flying crap about it being 4 years old.

some do though and you have to respect everybodys different

We can post fail jpegs all we want, but if he wants a newer car and prefers it, thats his choice.

this for me. All day, everyday.

oof , so much car for £15k. Getting on for half the price, just as practical and will be faster and just as much of a "look at me" car as the RS.

You can use the saved £10,000 to pay for 3/4 years worth of running costs too. You have to REALLY want an RS.

Well the RS4 on 74k, i can understand but the BMW is only on 57k and the Porsche is only on 37k.

Both are meant to be very good drivers cars. Obviously not in the same league as the BMW and RS4, but meant to be massive fun all the same.

Both the Evo and Subaru will get around 25mpg combined i should think. Insurance will be insane on both and you'll also be paying out 400 quid a year on tax for them too (iirc). Not to mention services, clutches, tyres, brakes.

Bottom line - none of these cars are cheap to run. None are even "reasonable" to run. All are downright expensive.

Because for some reason the new Focus RS has become a car that a lot of people want and have bought(hence the HUGE waiting list for one).

Most other RS fords were only bought by Ford nuts not your average joe bloggs ;)

That is so untrue, the RS has always been the performance car of choice for us common scum!
