Folding@Home News - Attention Single-Machine Crunchers

Welcome Beenom - that's quite some single rig you're bringing to the team, you should do well especially if you get lucky with the WUs

Rincin - I'll change you to Silver instead then, assuming you didn't want removing from the list :)

Hi rich, yeah i've got these two at the moment...

Core: Amber
Project: 1808
Credit: 153

Done 14% and ETA is 22 hours 6 mins

Core: Gromacs
Project: 2408
Credit: 600

Done 12% and ETA is 1 day 7 hours

(Im guessing the second one is the better out of the two :D)

I started both of these at around 6:06pm-6:10pm. Is the progress good for 5 and a half hours?

Those numbers look good to me, Beenom. If you want statistical averages of your data, try running FahMon. It'll estimate your times and give you pretty PPD numbers which you can use to figure out which are the dud WUs so that you know about which ones you should complain about on the forums.

Yes mate i've got FahMon that's where i got some of the stats from, I can see my log as well which says stuff like...

[22:00:22] Completed 25000 out of 250000 steps (10)
[22:19:12] Writing local files
[22:19:12] Completed 27500 out of 250000 steps (11)
[22:39:46] Writing local files
[22:39:47] Completed 30000 out of 250000 steps (12)

Those are the PPD numbers?

Also i've noticed, in task manager there are two F@H processes because im running two (dual core). But what i've seen is that for about 2 seconds one process has ~100,000k memory usage and the other has 4,000. Then it switches around so that the other F@H process has 100,000k mem usage and the other has 4,000. Is this to be expected/normal? (If you just understood what i've said :p)

I doubt the two processes are actually switching over - I expect that task manager is just reordering the list of tasks by CPU % or something.

In FahMon go to the menu and select

FahMon -> Download New Projects

that will make sure all the information for the projects is up to date, then select

FahMon -> Benchmarks...

or press Ctrl+B which should give you minimum and average frame times and will give you a PPD figure for each too

Ah yes, you are indeed correct about the reordering in task manager :).

(From the benchmarks)

Project : 1808
Core : Amber
Frames : 100
Credit : 153

-- FAH2 --

Min. Time / Frame : 11mn 28s - 192.14 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 11mn 53s - 185.40 ppd

Project : 2408
Core : Gromacs
Frames : 100

-- FAH1 --

Min. Time / Frame : 15mn 26s - 559.83 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 16mn 01s - 539.44 ppd

Those look ok?

Yep those look fine - and the second one looks particularly good! :D
The first one isn't bad for an Amber WU on an Intel (for some reason Intel chips just don't like them much) and the second one has bonus points due to the fact it's the one using the 100MB of RAM so they give you more points for your trouble

rich - you might as well and lemonan to the single chart - I've narrowed it down to two borgs but unable to get access to them (well that a lie but I don't have the password so .... ) well anyway, untill I get a lucky break It's a lone machine added to the team 10 total.

just noticed that I have been left off the single machine crunchers table, I know my account page says I have had 3 active CPUs in the last 50 days but thats because I use a dual boot and for some reason it sees different operating system as seperate CPUs?

hmmm not sure how that happened
sorry about that - will add you into last week's news

Rich

Just to warn you i am planning to switch folding from one machine to another so the active CPU count may rise for a day or two. i am switching the old one back to SETI as folding seems too buggy for a machine i don't have constant access too (it seems to be getting stuck almost every other WU and unlike other people it seems not to get more work if it can't submit the old one). However i have decided to switch another SETI machine to folding so i still have one on folding but as i have daily access to it i can keep a better eye on it.

You can add me to the single machine list too. I'm folding on both my partitions (x64 XP and x64 Vista, but haven't been in x64 XP for over a week) so I assume that's why I've got 8 active processors within the last 50 days (I've installed both partitions twice since getting my C2D 5 weeks ago)
