Folding@Home News - Attention Single-Machine Crunchers

Yep should be same name, hasn't any results on the site yet, i presume that it gets updated at a certain time or when i finish a project?

thanks for the welcome :D
yep it'll be when your first WU has completed and uploaded then - it usually shows up in the next hourly update after you've submitted the WU :)

should there not be a single core list and a dual core list, sorry to make more work but i dont think its fair putting single and dual core together in one list.
Well I've already distinguished between the two with colour where possible. I don't really want to add another list to seperate the two as not only is it more work but I worry about whether the news is becoming a bit of a read.

Also it's worth noting that the list was only really started to cater for those who couldn't get on the main list due to dumping less than 1,000 points during the week as they were only running one relatively slow machine or couldn't run 24/7 - if those people are now getting beat down to the bottom of a seperate list I'd be tempted to just not include Multicore/MultiCPU machines since they will always be in the top dumpers section anyway

I have considered doing away with the single crunchers list and simply listing every active cruncher from the week - maybe split into 3 or 4 tiers so that everyone gets a mention by default.
Based on last week's stats for example:
0 - 500 points 48 entries
500 - 1000 points 33 entries
1000 - 2500 points 37 entries
2500 points & above 33 entries
which would appear in the news as 4 seperate lists - just something I was thinking about introducing, still needs a bit of thought I think

I will keep it as it is for now however the news is long overdue a bit of a facelift - I will aim to automate more of the stats gathering/formatting tasks to give me more time to spend on improvements :)

also when does your week begin and end? because as of yesterday Tuesday 11th ive been folding a week and ive done 4,052
Each week in the news I state what dates and times the stats run between - this does change sometimes when I've moved the day or time of the news so I include it near the bottom
Last week's was this...

Stats compiled from Stanford official stats page and EOC stats page
Stomping and Dumping Stats calculated between 19:30 June 29th and 19:45 July 6th
at which time you'd only been credited the 861 points - though that means the rest will appear in the news tomorrow night

hope this helps :)

Just a thought as well with regard to lists, how about a normalised list - average points during the week per core?
I guess though thats just one big list with 150+ odd entries, might be a bit much.
Well the only way to get the number of cores from Stanford is to crawl through each member's stats page on the cgi pages - if Stanford detect a bot doing that then it's IP-ban time :o
Oh and I'm not volunteering to do it by hand :p

I'm sure I can sort out a few tricks for making the news quicker to write - most of the calculations are done by Excel and most of the formatting is done by copying and pasting the new data into last week's post.
The news isn't re-written each week - that would do even my head in :D

so if i were credited 861 anything ive done more than that will be on this weeks news? so i should have 3,297 for this week with current points? 4,158
Yep that's exactly right :)

Should be a very good week for you in the news

151 active members in 4 lists, ranked by output - sort of EOC without the 'grays' and grouped by colour (ish)- like it. more work but especially if 'active processors' count is included
just wondering if you've seen that EOC lets you filter out the inactives but keep everyone else in rank order?

quite handy - I only noticed it the other day though :o

edit: yes anything submitted in time to be credited in the 7pm update will get into the news :)

What webiste do you get your stats from for the news? because my sig, stanford and EXTREME overclocking resulats are all different, the stanford one is how many ive done up to now.
I use the stanford page as it's the most up to date

EOC only runs every 3 hours as the data page it's allowed to use is only updated by Stanford every 3 hours - bots can't use the cgi pages as it's too much of a drain on Stanfords servers

The sigs only update once a day - don't really see the need for more especially at a cost to one of our team-mates

Glad you mentioned that before I go trying to crawl through Stanfords pages :D

So do you just snapshot:
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/teamstats/team10.html

every week at a set time and work out the stats from that?
nope I use this page

http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=10

as I think you'll find the other page is only updated every 3 hours

I save the page (along with the EOC team summary page and EOC team overtake page - both used to compile the targets and threats) then copy and paste the member list into Excel (needs to come from IE as Firefox puts the whole lot in a single cell) then save as a Tab Delimited Text File to get rid of the formatting/hyperlinks.
I then re-open the file and sort by name - then copy the whole list into the main workbook and the magic begins :p

Ahh way to go fellas!!!

I've made the changes ready for next week's news - fold on! :)

dunc - I assume you'll be running this alongside your "Dunc" cruncher and having your own little competition then? :D

The P3 just returned it's WU so can you add me to the list too? :)
lol no probs - news is on a go-slow tonight, so warm in here that one false move.... :o

edit: ahhh although you'd finished a WU it wasn't showing in the stats when the cut-off for the news came - you're in the list but you won't show till next week :( :p

Right then ms9cw & Madex001 to be added - just wondering if you both realise it's for folding@home rather than seti
Mandy long time no see - no activity on your folding account that I can see but if you are back and folding then I'm happy to add you of course :)

I also have to add Concorde and remove Mikebert4 for next week's news

Just posting here so I don't forget in the mean time :p

Ok all the above added/removed or what-have-you, just double-check when this week's news is posted later tonight and let me know if you're the wrong colour or anything :)
