Football 12-14th Feb 2011 WHICH IS VALENTINE'S DAY ****SPOILERS****

The "problem" (in a good way) is Nani (as he isnt really a traditional winger) - Valencia is a really decent proper old style winger, but he can only play on the right

Nani is best on the right too - he can do a job on the left (like Rooney can) but it doesnt show what he is best at.

A proper left winger is needed urgently but more creativity centrally is a must 1st off (and of course a 1st choice gk lol).

I swear the majority on this forum really dont have a clue what they're talking about, firstly I see that Rooney's goal was pure luck, he didn't mean to do it, it wasn't that special blah blah blah and then in this thread I read that Rooney challenging in the air was more important to our first goal than what Nani did - are you freaking kidding me? Taking it down at chest hight, killing it dead, the touch to take it away from the defender and then the finish - balls Rooney and Giggs' contributions were more important to the goal than what Nani did! Nine times out of ten the player receiving Giggs' pass wouldn't of controlled it the way Nani did and even if they did nine times out of ten they'd of been run off the ball by the defender

Some people really cant see past their ignorant negative views

Hmm possibly, but Obertan definitely isn't a striker. I'd like us to buy a top left winger when Giggs retires but first priority has to be a creative attacking central midfielder. When you look at other teams that have the likes of Fabregas, Silva, Van De Vaart, Lampard, Gerrard....we've had no-one to play that role since Scholes started playing much deeper.

Silva and VDV aren't centre midfielder's though. VDV has really caught the eye this season as he's played as the second striker, Silva although a class little player plays wide left of City's front 3. You could even argue that Gerrard plays as the second striker also

You're right though a top midfielder is the priority though, Modric is the one that fits the bill for me more than anyone else

Changed it at halftime, king billy had me fearing the worst droping tuday, thus losing the ability to hold play up the field, which even when forest were down to 10 after losing raddy, never cost us the shape and dirrection of our play.

Got lucky on the goal, invited it on in the 2nd half with the formation. If for nothing else though, chambers, wes are nothing short on ability, top man knows that.

Well done to the team, 10 man forest all played a part today.

Manager realy knows his stuff, best we've had since Clark.

In some ways Everton and Villa are both really lucky that there are enough teams worse than them this year. They've both been well below par.

I think at best without a buyer we have 2 years left in the premiership. We can't balance the books despite spending little and cannot afford to replace older players. Either kids come through who are good enough to eventually sell on or we go down a league.

There's only so much Moyes can do with loans.

Frank sorry but you're being ridiculous. You're acting like all Nani did was tap it in, not make an awesome run inside the full back, bring the ball down from chest height with one touch into his path and then execute a very cool finish.

I hold my hands up - Ive just watched MOTD and Nani did still have a lot to do for the 1st goal.

Would Nani be any good as the AM the team desperately need (ie from next season, with Valencia on the right - hopefully a new signing on the left) and Nani roaming around in the middle?

I think Utd are better all around with two traditional wingers, especially if we have decent full backs overlapping (Evra and Rafael). Nani is also not great at tracking back if the full back is caught out of position - he is getting better but needs to work on it some more - as an AM this wouldnt be missed as much

His main advantage - his speed - would be nullified in the middle though

You have two or three decent kids who are worth big bucks - which if re-invested in the team could probably get you 5 or so players (maybe not Rooney money, but £15-20m for each would be a good deal for all parties. Thats where you are going to get the money from to stay in the EPL. Moyes does an amazing job with what little he is given

I have thought about this but I don't think so, his main strength is when he's running at one defender and I feel in the middle he would get muscled out of the game, but then again his control and dribbling is pretty good. Who know really, might be worth trying that when Valencia is back, playing something like this:

------------------Rooney-----------------------
---------------Nani-------------------Valencia

-------Anderson--------Fletcher-------------
---------------Scholes/Carrick-----------------

Evra-------Vidic-------------Rio---------Rafael

Bad diagram, but something like that.

This is one of those 'what games are you watching?' moments for me...

Wasnt talking about individual games - Im talking over a number of weeks/months :)

He isnt the best at getting back and covering (yesterday OShea hardly went beyond the half way line so it didnt really matter - watch when Rafael plays.....)

yeah something like that (although that leaves Evra a little exposed)

Errr, so was I?

I wouldn't label Nani as particularly bad or good at getting back in comparison with the rest of the squad, wondering where you get he's 'not good enough' in that regard...

Everton are going to have to sell those younger players this summer.
United can do them a favour by part exchanging Gibson plus cash for Rodwell for a start.
