Football and the Coronavirus

It's nigh on impossible to police that though. Heck, Liverpool introduced a new contactless ticketing system this season and it caused huge problems with massive queues for the first few games. Imagine having to check every fans covid passport, it would take hours.

It would take a while but if the capacity was reduced it would be OK. 20% capacity would be 15k at the largest stadium.

According to the Athletic clubs have decided against postponing round 20. Probably, like with the 5 subs vote last season, club execs have gone over the head of their managers who wanted this to happen.

Yep, seems like we'll be carrying on as planned.

Although I'm not sure what this will mean for further fixtures being postponed if players test positive, and fans in the grounds if we enter a partial-lockdown soon...

I'm sure sooner or later we'll be hit with games behind closed doors or at least massively reduced attendances for a period. How things work out for clubs moving forwards is going to be a bit of a lottery. Who you play, when you play them, how many players you or they have out through covid is going to be down to luck.

The premier league squads for this weeks league cup QF’s are gonna be unrecognisable now.

I don’t want our first teamers anywhere near it tbh with this festive schedule at this particular time.

Instead, clubs have been advised if they have 13 fit players, plus a goalkeeper, they should fulfil their games.

LMAO, 2 subs!

And what happens if you’ve got 13 players, but your strikers are out? Stick your CB upfront?

Clubs want their attendance sales while they can still get them, if the post Xmas anticipated restrictions kick in.

I mentioned concussion subs yesterday, all sense has gone out the window and pure greed has taken over.

The PL have confirmed that 84% of players have had at least one vaccination and 77% have had two. When you consider that clubs like Liverpool, Wolves(?) and Leeds(?) have 100% (or close to) of players fully vaccinated, that means you've probably got a number of clubs at just 50%.

Heard rumours that United are one of the worst. Wouldn't surprise me with the number of braindead players we have.

The Welsh have announced sporting events will be behind closed doors from Boxing day and now the Scots have announced that outdoor sporting events will be limited to 500 spectators. I suspect we're going to see something announced in the next week or so for England too.

It should be done on a percentage of capacity rather than a set figure.

It is bizarre that this wasn't done. Perhaps there's a totally legitimate reason but if you spread everybody out in an open aired venue I don't understand how their can be an issue. As someone said earlier in the thread, crowdless football in particular is largely pointless.

Reduce capacity would be better. Football without fans is utterly pointless

I know right. I've been saying all along, whoever won the league while there were no fans would have won the pointless football trophy. Should have null and voided it, just like this season now. Maybe give free tickets to the un-vaccinated if they get the jab on the way in to the stadium.

this has no bearing at all on how well my team are doing and how well their rivals are.
