Football and the Coronavirus

All additional games yes, but the games that were already chosen for Sky/BT should have remained or Sky/BT could have asked for money back
That’s what I’m not sure about, are all the games sky are showing free, the additional ones?

They surely can’t charge for games that were not in their original packages.

I’m not sure mate as they haven’t been released yet, sky are showing 20 free games on Pick if I remember correctly, but I can’t find what games were originally scheduled

They are showing the extra games free to air but they didn't have to. The extra games that BT received won't be free to air however BT are offering 50% off June's subscription.

Wouldn’t have been very good PR would it, to charge for games that they get for free.

I don’t mind BT, I get that for free anyway :p

To be fair to Sky they're not simply making the extra games free, they're actually swapped some of the premium games that they'd paid for with the extra games. It's being reported that they're going to make the Everton - Liverpool game one of the free to air games. In any circumstances this would have been a tv pick (and was scheduled for monday night football) but it could even be the title winning game.

It's very good PR for Sky and I'm sure they're hoping it will encourage more people to sign up to Sports and or offer greater value to advertisers with much bigger viewing figures.

I'm guessing pick isn't on freeview?

re the chump refusing to play, every match is a potential injury. It's called a career hazard. You can't not play when your contract says you have obligations to do so. What a duck. It's like a soldier refusing to do peace keeping duties because he's due to go home next week. You get out there and do your bit. If I were his potential employer I'd be ringing him telling him the offer is withdrawn and see how he feels then.

TBF, these games, free to air or not would be unlikely to increase subscription numbers. Very few people are going to get sky and have a dish installed in order to watch these games. Likewise, not many people would think it would be a good idea to be ****ing around with changing their broadband supplier at the moment. And there's no mileage for any of them protecting the importance to live games to their licenced premises market either.

Amazon, maybe, but they're still trying to get people used to the idea that they can watch games on prime.

So making games free to air is a win win really as it will send viewing figures and advertising revenue through the roof. Don't be under the impression they're being altruistic.

Which is pretty much what the PL have said to broadcasters asking for a partial refund on games that are behind closed doors. They'll end up making more money from these games than they usually do. People are ready to watch any old ****.

edit: sorry for the swearing. I'm listening to a Doug Stanhope CD and it's catching.

The results from the 5th round of testing have just been released and there's 1 positive from 1200 tests. I assume this round of testing would have seen the 4 players/staff that tested positive in round 3 being retested so that 1 positive result might not even be a new case. So that's 6 from 750 in the first round (prior to returning to training), 2 from 1000 in the second round, 4 from 1000 in the third round (including those that tested positive in round 1) and 0 from 1100 in round four.

It's starting to look like PL players and staff have done a better job of isolating themselves and protecting themselves when they have gone out than before they returned to training. I know Klopp gave an interview the other day saying that Liverpool players have to wear masks and gloves if they go to stores etc.

edit: Spurs have confirmed that the one postive test was one of their players/staff so it would appear to be a new case as there was no comment from them previously.

It’s a shame the rest of the country can’t take the example, the virus would be gone in 2 weeks

Pick doesn’t even have a HD channel ffs
Not on Freeview, no.

I'm just happy football is coming back, and there will be some free to view matches. I wasn't expecting any at all.

If you'd said at the start of the season that dozens of Premier League matches would be free to view I think most would have been delighted. That some won't be HD is a shame, but I'm certainly not going to complain about it.

I’ve got sky. What channel is it please?

Actually, it doesn’t matter. Just did some digging and it seems like the pick games will also be shown on sky sports, so I can watch in HD there.

They've confirmed matches will allow 5 subs, not sure if they're using the same thing of only allowing them to use subs in 3 slots that Bundesliga is using though.
