Football Banter Thread

Such a shame about Ba. Always enjoyed watching him as a footballer. :(

I wouldn't say his career was over. Larsson and Cisse both had leg breaks that looked as bad as that and both of them came back just as strong. Hopefully Demba Ba will as well, that's no way for a footballer to end their career.

Sadly it isn't always as simple as that. Manzano, his manager, has said it's potentially career-ending, and he will know more about the severity of it and any complications.

It might not help that his knee is a ticking ticking bomb (I don't know if it's the same leg).

Could be interesting. I wonder how this will be enforced. You can clearly see players swearing at refs on the telly so will they get reds. How do you decide if a player is swearing directly at the ref and not just generally ****ed off with themselves. When I was playing I would quite often swear and it wasn't always at the ref. Sometimes it was at myself or just a general disapproval of a decision. I never swore at the ref directly.

Good though could be tricky. I get annoyed when a number of players completely crowd the ref when it should just be the perp or captain in front of him/her.

I think that's going to be really hard to enforce. You've got to make sure all referees on board or the first time somebody sends off Rooney in a high profile game he is going to get absolutely destroyed by the media for inconsistency of refereeing decisions.

Few red cards in early games and the message should get across.

The inconsistency with refs is already a big issue so I don't know quite how well this will work.

yeah Refs just need to stick with it for a few game weekends and it will get through the thickest skulls, but they all need to do it together otherwise it wont work at all

Premier League, EFL & FA introduce new player behaviour rules

Offences which could earn players a yellow card

  • Visibly disrespectful behaviour to any match official;
  • An aggressive response to decisions;
  • Confronting an official face to face;
  • Running towards an official to contest a decision;
  • Offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards match officials;
  • Physical contact with any match official in a non-aggressive manner;
  • A yellow card for at least one player when two or more from a team surround a match official.
New red card offences

  • If a player confronts match officials and uses offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards them;
  • Physical contact with match officials in an aggressive or confrontational manner.

Not quite sure how this will work out for CL teams. PL, get carded for any signs of dissent. CL, get a big advantage by being a general **** and cheating.
