I'd always go for Van Basten's Volley, followed by Giggsy's sublime one against the gooners then Maradona's in 86. Giggs came second because that Arsenal defence was much better than the english in 86.

that uruguay lad, terry headed clear... and what followed was a beautiful right footed volley into the right hand corner, robinson had no chance
was a typical good clearance by terry too

against england... friendly 01/03/06

england 2-1 uruguay

Who was that Leeds bloke who skinned a load of people all the way from in his own half? Rodney Wallace or something like that? Quite impressive, he actually rode some challenges unlike a lot of runs like that.

Bergkamps against the Toon, Henrys against Man U when he flicked it up and volleyed in from outside the corner of the 18 yard box and when he lobbed Schmeical on his line for Villa are particular favourites of mine though.

IMO the best goal ever was the Brazilian's vs Italy in the WCF in Mexico '70, following an extraordinary amount of showboating, and keep-ball against the weary Italians, Pele rolls the ball nonchalently into the path of Carlos Alberto, and with the aid of a beautifully timed bobble, smashes it home into the bottom corner.

This one does it for me as well.

I agree with JohnnyG as well. The more I see Maradona's 2nd goal against England the more I think it was actually Terry Butcher who scores it and not Maradona

Rod Wallace? That'd have been unusual for him :D

Not the best goals ever but here's a few of God's specials which the youngsters may not have seen at the time. Back in those days there was no point watching Goal of the Month because you already knew who was gonna win:

http://www.hangtime.nildram.co.uk/goals/letissier/1993_10_24_newc_1.avi (Gazza did a poor imitation vs Scotland in Euro96)
http://www.hangtime.nildram.co.uk/goals/letissier/1994_02_26_wimb.avi (I've lost count of the number of times we used to practice this on the yard)
http://www.hangtime.nildram.co.uk/goals/letissier/1993_03_24_notf.avi (Just to prove he could hit 'em with both feet)
http://www.hangtime.nildram.co.uk/goals/letissier/1994_12_10_bbur_2.avi (One of his most famous goals, a bit overrated in my opinion)

Someone else mentioned the goal Bergkamp scored vs the Argies (http://www.hangtime.nildram.co.uk/goals/nl_arg2_1.avi ). Obviously they hadn't spent enough time watching him play for Arsenal that season: http://www.hangtime.nildram.co.uk/goals/Dennis_Bergkamp_Ars1997.mpeg

I think Le Tiss scored the most consistently great goals of any player that I've been around to see.

The Maradona against England is not only a great bit of individual skill but anyone who doesn't rate it that highly surely has to think about the occasion, the situation in the match and the quality of the opposition, all adds up to the greatest goal of all time IMO.

Saying that the greatest non-goal of all time happened last season in a Spanish game, think it was an Atletico Bilbao player, smacked one from a mile out, it clubbed the bar and landed a good foot over the line, wasn't given though!
