Football manager 2016

Some nice fixes in the patch.

My trusty Scandinavian scout found this guy earlier, never played a single game in his career! I'm hoping it's not too late for him those stats are fantastic for never having played. Poor concentration but that OTB and pace definitely worth a punt.

I reckon he will get arrested before he can play a game. Those be the dead stoney eyes of a cold blooded killer!

Careful - anyone with custom skins will be unable to continue game as the latest update causes the game to crash when used in conjunction with custom skins

I have the skin that allows instant result, no problems here, but thanks for the heads up(only played a couple of hours since patch).

Managed to finish in European Cup spot for the first time in my career at Jaen! Then got a nice rep boost by winning the Olympic Gold Medal with the Portugal U23s, which I have never done in the history of the game and it was a great experience, highly recommended.

Really getting into my Wimbledon save, 13 games in I'm 4th 4 points off top, I've developed a tactic for them and it's basically 90's Newcastle :D

Each match is end to end insanity, I've tonked two of the top three 6-0 and 5-1 but then lost to Mansfield and Oxford 5-3 6-2 :p

For a while I tried a more sensible tactic and got two 0-0 but it was boring so embraced the crazy gang spirit again :D I think my mistake is playing slowest defenders sometimes as with my high line they get picked off. When I play the right defence though I get some huge results (beating Plymouth 5-1 away)

It's stressful at times being 3-0 up and chucking it away but so much fun!

I like to play higher up too. If defenders are generally slow you could teach them to stay back at all times via PPM and/or you can individually assign stay back roles. Works for me, sometimes..

I'll give that a go, thanks.

It is causing me an issue as I'm not playing both my captain and vice because they are both slow defenders and it's causing a little grief as I've had to promise them first team football but I tend to lose with them.

Reet,

Now have my tablet, have the game, and want to start a new save tomorrow, first time playing FM16, so my question is: What team do you recommend I start with?

In past versions I've always started with a top team, Barca etc... but I'm hankering after my old CM days of having a challenge with a less then perfect team, I don't want anything too difficult and stressful, but something I can be proud of 'if' I achieve anything :p

I might give the slim version a try first because isn't that supposed to be similar to CM of old? Will I miss the full version?

Any thoughts welcome :)

Do you have any particular preferences? E.g. league, transfer budget, board expectations?

I've found Espanyol a very interesting save so far. They're very strapped for cash (even after a couple of seasons in Europe and around £75m in player sales I'm still getting transfer budgets of around £5m) but that just means you have to be creative. They've also got some good young first-team players.

Not so worried about country or league as such, just don't want to struggle too hard, I'm not well at the moment so don't want the frustration or stress :D I guess that means also not having the board breathing down my neck too much either?

Espanyol sound interesting, thanks, though a little concerned about their budget but will have a look later on :)

Swansea could be an option, decent finances, decent first 11, decent reputation from being in the EPL. Have a squad who can challenge for a European spot.

They also have a couple of players who can be sold initially to raise funds (think I was offered 28mill for Sigurðsson) and some of the better players will sign for you, unless a 'top' club come in first if your more into that.

Southampton maybe, great squad and great prospects, decent budget, pushing for top 6. Or Watford, could aim to get them into Europa League after 2 seasons, again strong budget. Same with Leicester.

Stress free would be Spurs or Liverpool - top 4 pretty easy to achieve, £20 million budget. Sell Kane for £40 million to United and you're laughing.

Start at the very bottom and work your way up ;) It's taken me an absolute age to get where I am now. 2023 season, still not quite up in the BPL. But started right at the bottom and have some cracking players. My best is an American defender who I contracted on a free transfer and had to wait three seasons for his work permit! He is now of international quality, and is likely to become world class in his own right when he matures. He is currently just 19. I've no idea why he was a free transfer  in the first place. But I've given him a £40 million release clause just in case ;)
