Football Manager 2018

My game has finally let on which Brexit I'm getting, only 17 foreign players with the Irish considered part of the UK players quota.

Little disappointed really, I wanted the hard hard core option with the UK breaking up and it being almost impassible to get non-England players into squads... On the plus side it's nice they decide the new work permit rules in advance.

I fancy buying this for a new year spin is it decent? I thought the series was getting abit stale for years with Fm 16 and Fm 17

Not worth the upgrade. It adds fluff and a new database. I get it every year 1500+ hours a time and this year im done already.

Im gutted tbh as its been part of my life since 1993 but i just cant get into it.

I think there are improvements yes, but as has been said there is also a lot of fluff in the game which over complicates it in my opinion. The regens are also in a poor state graphically, and I don't think there is a lot to recommend it over the last game.

it's a tough one, I certainly get my monies worth out of it, it has a lot of unnecessary crap that's just frustrating after you see it the first few times.

Player interactions is slightly better than the last version, regens are still off and feel they have been developed in a russian lab but this only becomes a real problem if you play the same save for a long time.

If you like the series then its much the same apart from small changes. Tactic creation is better this time around.

Still dumb issues though i had Mr Mike Smalling come to me and say he wanted to leave United as he had done it all.

I told him he wont find the same lads elsewhere and he said you are right boss... i best get back to training. LOL

Finished my second season with salford City yesterday and managed to get promoted through the playoffs. Chasing 1st by 1-3 points for most of the season then had a poor run of form to finish the season and ended up 4th, 10 points off 1st. As I say, promoted though playoffs and whole I’ve been given significant transfer budget (£1mil or so) we’re plummeting into debt though it doesn’t actually seem to be as a result of wages :( All of my signings last season were either free with relatively ya paying average wages, on loan with me paying 0% wages, except for one player for £10k.

Plan on using the same model this season to try and manage finances although I did actually get very lucky with a youth intake, and I now have 3/4 players in the U28’s with 4* potential, and white a few others with 3-3.5*

I had a message in my inbox mentioning Brexit but nothing has been confirmed yet. How long does it take Brexit to happen or is that also random?

On my second season with United after winning the league in my first. Had a massive clear out (how the hell do you keep the squad happy? Everyone complains about a lack of playing time).

Out was:

Smalling (asked to leave and although I like him, I wanted to promote Tuanzebe)
Rojo (meh)
Darmian (meh)
Fellaini (meh)
Carrick (wanted a new challenge (I do love him though))
Ashley Young (meh)
Herrera (I like him but Monaco offered 60M)
Miki (he played well, but I have too many options up top)

In came:

Wilshere (free)
Sanchez (free)
Eric Dier (£40M)
Mitchell, , Fosu-Mensah, Tuanzebe, Henderson (GK), Gomes all promoted to first team

Ibrahimovic is still here and I'm trying to give a lot of youth a chance. I do need a new RB as while Valencia is solid I want someone a bit more long term (looking at Trippier).

First team looks like:

------------------DDG
Valencia -- Lindelof -- Bailly -- Shaw
-----------Matic -----Pogba
Sanchez-----Mata/Lingard----Martial/Rashford
-----------------Lukaku

A lot of potential but not quite to CL winning standards yet; need some of these youngers (Gomes, Nishan, Tuanzebe) to come of age - and perhaps a world class right back (no-one I've seen has caught my eye. Dier was bought for steel to midfield, cover to CB and some RB action).

EDIT - big shout out to Dimitri Mitchell; who did brilliantly playing as a left winger or wing back. And now gets a lot of game time. I hold him out of the bigger games against very strong opposition (Chelsea, Man City etc.) but in the other games hes been brilliant. Him and Lukaku had an amazing partnership for a while when I had some injuries.

If you have players whom have high leadership it's quite easy to the team quiet. I've got two defenders who have 15+ leadership and although I get frequent complaints I ask them to intervene. Leadership tends to come with age but also increases the longer you have the player.

This next transfer window I'm going to have to take so much time :) I can't wait :p I've played 2500 hours over FM14 and 16 but on both of those my main teams were Real Madrid and Inter, dominating as you'd expect, but as I'm now doing a non league save, I've had to really buy in to the save

I understand why, but one of my main gripes with non-league is I can't just go into for example Man Utd's squad (my 'team'# in real life) and just see how Pogba or Bailly or Luke Shaw are developing unless they've been scouted :( Of course I understand the realism but still :(

I can understand that - if you have the editor enabled you can take a peek at the players and see how their attributes have improved. I don't like to use it too much as it takes some of the fun away but with lower league the scouting is such a nightmare, I feel your pain.

I've got Peterborough into the EPL and have no such problem with scouting anymore :D £720k a year scouting budget.

Funnily enough Peterborough were my senior affiliate for the previous 2 seasons, although I’ve now replaced them with Sheffield Wednesday. Spent 6 hours playing this evening and I got 3 weeks into the transfer window :eek::eek::p:p:p

Into October in first season after promotion and it's going generally far better than i anticipated. 13 games played and we're in 9th, though 4th-9th is covered by 3 points :) I've just played Barrow and Tranmere who are 1st and 2nd, and beat them both. Having a hell of a lot of joy through Sanchez Watt coming on late on and causing havoc. This season he has 1 start, 9 appearances from the bench, 3 goals 2 assists, with 0.85 goals per 90 minutes and 0.57 assists per 90 minutes :)

Through the transfer window i also bought 2 very good CB's for around £10k each, strangely. Here's the first who is smashing it.

and the second, who is decent, but still a good way off Diarra

WHile I'm here, here's my youth prospect who i've been keeping a huge eye on over the past few years and is so so close to being ready for regular football. He'll be starting in some of the cup games and matches against lower table teams and see how he does :)

No replies since :( But i had to post this. Scraped into the Vanarama National play-offs when i shouldn't have done. Went 3-0 down in the semi final and made a few slight changes.

Unless there is a complete rework I can't see me ever going back to the series, not that they will care as they have all the licenses so have basically killed off any competition.

What are the main issues? I bought this a few weeks ago to keep up with tradition for having every FM in my steam lib, I have played it a lot, I don't really see much different to that last, like every year but it was cheap.

Dont use 3 strikers, the ME cant cope with it, thats just one of the problems.

Its the same every year, enjoy it for what it is, thats all you can do. It never tears up the book and revolutionises, we know what we are buying into :)
