No, although if deceptively worded someone who knows nothing about consoles might consider the brand name for the console to be "X-Box 360 box"

It isnt deceptively worded, what is it if it isnt an "xbox 360 box"? Thats the most straight forward description possible.

THank you for your abstract comment on the box economy, although you failed to address why someone would want a single box shipped to them at greater expense (due to posteage and packing) than puchasing one from a shop...

So, at what point did I say they would? I just stated the reasons they might want a box not how much they would pay for it. If it starts at £0.99 and theres no buy now where is the problem exactly?
I said not to put a buy now btw.

The test is whether the wording of the title misrepresents the product for sale, in which case it would be down to a certain degree of interpretation:
For Sale: Xbox 360 - Core System box
would be less ambiguous;
For Sale: Xbox 360 Core System - Box
less still;
For Sale: Xbox 360 box Core System - Box only
makes it fairly obvious.

As the examples I have posted illustrate, however, some people need to be beaten over the head with the obvious, before they pull their heads out of their derrières.

So its okay to confuse people who are stupid?
Is it okay to make them think they are getting more than they are if they are stupid?
This is how con-artists work. Not everyone is blessed with a sharp IQ (or even an average one).

As some of us have said, if you find a buyer who actually WANTS an empty box, then fine...but you won't find one.

Anything other than that is mis-representing the item for sale.

Why don't you change the title to: 'EMPTY xbox 360 box'?

Ok then include that, I thought that was irrelevant data. But empahsise the word BOX. It's easy to ensure you don't con anyone. Capital letters all over the joint saying that it is a box not a console.

...snip...

I appreciate what you're saying, part of my reason for doing this is simply because I can, but I don't feel I'm preying on anybody and I'm not looking for any justification from the posters here, quite the opposite. I was given the box and my sense of mischief immediately kicked in. I'd like to see how obvious I could make it that it was a box, and see if anyone still bid large amounts. I wasn't planning on making it as obvious as the link Borris posted, so that's changed things.

Some people would see the word box and assume it simply means 'boxed' - especially with a buy it now price of £170. No they shouldn't assume anything, but people do. Naivety isn't justification for ripping someone off though.

I doubt he intends to make it particularly clear.

well, without wanting to sound like a brown nose, i've dealt with Tru in the MM here, and the last word i would use to describe him is deceptive. the only criticism i have is setting the BIN price so high. realistically, the bidding will never go to that. i VERY much doubt that any foul-play is intended here.

how utterly inappropriate...i love it! :D

If there is no deception, why is he asked about how people read the title - why is he trying to craft his impression?

I wonder what sort of financial or moral difficulty would lead a person to do such a thing...

I've dealt with him in the MM too if I remember correctly.. albeit I was the seller. What he's doing here is wrong though and I'm disappointed at his attitude.

Theres no two-ways around this. With your choice of wording you're hoping that someone will stumble in and buy your box thinking its a complete system.

If that's not your intention, then you can easily make the title and description accurately reflect what you're selling which is beyond any doubt.
But you won't, and you're cowardly for even arguing about this.

but it's not! if there are people out there who want to buy the box, for whatever reason, then Tru should be allowed to sell it.

So you're not interested in the potential financial gain, you just want to dip your toes into non-profit scamming?

Confidence tricksters tend to rely on something much more powerful than stupidity or lack of attention - Greed.
So trying to sell an empty box for profit isn't greed related? :confused:

I dont think there are, I believe that there are people out there that want to buy an xbox 360 system and will buy what Tru is selling after getting confused.

Indeed, the BIN comment was just a bit of devilment on my part, it was something to get the holier-than-thou brigade frothing at the mouth.
