Ford Mustang to be released in EU

I got the back end to kick out easily on standard power with the roads a little damp so 700+BHP is going to be murder unless the roads are very dry

Great news Gibbo. I'm going to call my dealer later this week to get some final dates before Ford shuts down for Christmas. I won't start bothering Karen or Andy yet until build time but here is hoping if they speed up I might get it in May. I'd like it sooner but May works well for me and it will definitely be a 16 plate. Somehow I don't think I could stretch to a 67 plate even if I wanted to.

777bhp through the back wheels would have me reenacting Driving Miss Daisy on most british roads most days, I guess its all well managed and supercharger not so severe. 350R looked great in that track test video

True this time I am doing it the right way round, standard brakes are upto and beyond the task of stopping the car, so no changes in brakes required considering the car has 380mm disc and 6-pot brembo's up front as standard.

But the suspension is being ripped out, FRPP Handling kit and a bunch of BMR/Steeda suspension parts going on the car which gives it a better suspension setup than that of the Steeda Q777 and Roush Stage 3. So it will be ready for the power when time is right. :)

Though 777BHP is huge amounts of power I suspect this car can put it down, it has far more sophisticated suspension over S197, more advanced electronics, an LSD and weighs more which all help with traction. My S197 had 575BHP and I could bury the throttle hard in 2nd gear in dry conditions without issue and that had no LSD either.

I suspect the S550 with 650 horsepower copes rather well, but with more I suspect some very wide rear wheels and sticky rubber is recommended and I see most guys in the USA going with square 285 setups or 305/315 in the rear and 275/285 in the front. I will leave the car stock for a year though engine wise, in case I need to make any warranty claims for engine/powertrain.

Are you looking at the uprated half shafts as well or see what the std ones are like and then upgrade when the power goes up ?

No need on a street driven car in my view, I won't be drag racing and never try to launch a car hard, even with more power I can see stock being just fine. :)

Well, at least you got to enjoy it for several years and have something truly special to look forward to.

From those revving clips, the engine sounds like it has a lot of rotating mass. The revs take ages to drop back down to idle after the rev. Can anything be done about that?

Built in rev hang into the ECU map. To aid in smoother up changes.

So in theory one could tune it out, but whole idea is that well it makes changing gear smoother.

I need to get the car before I worry about things like that and then such things I guess if I am not so happy are a live with it as remapping or playing with the ECU in any way could void warranty on engine/powertrain.

Just saw one in the flesh for the first time, was driving back to work from a job and saw one in the local showroom (Cemaes Bay, Anglesey) so spun the van round and went for a look. I was very impressed with how good they look in real life, i thought they might look a bit big as there is a previous generation Mustang around locally and that just looks huge on the road. The fit and finish of everything looked ace, this one i looked at was in red and had the correct engine but the wrong transmission.

Just think.... some ppl have ordered the 2.3 Ecoboost in Auto :(

The auto is the quicker option as the V8 Auto will comfortably do the 1/4 mile in around 12.7s at 113mph terminal as due torque converter launches better. :)

If you want your Mustang as a cruiser or drag racer auto is best. Manual for the twisties and involvement. :D

But yeah ecoboost yeah lol.

Hi there

A few more parts arrived, I am really glad I ordered when I did for a few reasons, some items are taking over a month to arrive and my big order, full suspension kit etc. still has not shipped but the shipping has more than double and the cost of the parts gone up by nearly 30%, so saved $1000 easily by buying a few weeks ago. :)

Anyway I seem to be building a collection of these. :D

My favourite looks wise is the billet one, its the heaviest and I also have a billet reverse lockout collar coming also to replace the fake plastic billet look-a-like the car comes with. I also still very fond of the 50yr authentic edition and it is larger, will have to drive with both and see which I prefer the feel of. I will no doubt be selling the other black and white one once I've got the car and made my decision of which one to stick with. :)

Also a collection of other parts to add to the already rather large collection of parts. :D

MMD hood struts, I went for these due to an offer but I do like the fact they use large metal plates ensuring the pressure from the gas struts is spread out, so no chance of deforming or denting the hood, I also like the distinct lack of branding. The downside is they weigh a couple of kilo's but this will allow getting rid of the hood prop and make fitting the blower easier when the time comes plus any other under the hood work, well thats my excuse anyway, plus a hood prop is yuck. ;)

The bazooka shape tube is a smoked vinyl kit for the whole car, my plan is to just smoke the rear lights and rear lenses, MAYBE, now I've seen the clear lights they actually go quite well with magnetic, so I might just leave well alone and again end up selling this kit which is for whole car, front and rear.

The rubber flimsy looking mount just is a 5 minute install to stop excess transmission movement, makes 2nd-3rd shift easier as is a reported issue in US and for £20 why not, it can create NVH but I shall drill a hole in the centre of it to eliminate that.

The other is an uprated mount for transmission, just a firmer bush, just make the gear change more precise/positive. The coil covers I already posted, just under the hood decoration. ;)

Nothing too exciting, thats still yet to ship but fingers crossed everything will arrive before the car, I hope. :)

Lightweight flywheel would sort that out, if carefully matched you won't really lose any drivability either. My mx5 has a Lightweight flywheel, makes it so much more fun and responsive. I know people say they can ruin a car for road use, I think if you went too light and paired it with a heavy duty clutch you'd struggle, but pick parts sensibly and you can make a car rev much more freely and feel even more exciting and responsive to throttle inputs. It's one of the best mods I've done to my car.

Nedd to be careful if adding a supercharger though, the charger adds extra drag on the engine (something else being driven off the crank), the inertia of a heavy flywheel helps keep the engine from stalling despite the extra drag. I know some people with supercharged mx5s find the car can be easy to stall and experience idle issues when pairing a lightweight flywheel and a supercharger.

Spot on when I fitted the supercharger to my Saleen I had to remove all the Saleen lightweight pulleys and go back to stock.

Also the revs drop slowly for the reason I mentioned, its built in the cars factory tune to make changing gear smoother at higher rpm's. :)

Also hot of the press, the GT350 intake manifold, throttle body and air intake is now available for the regular GT from FRPP, not cheap though at $2000 but power is predicted around 480BHP crank, add in manifolds, high-flow cats and regular GT's are now comfortable making over 500 crank horsepower with 7500rpm peak power, not bad at all. Still early days for NA tuning as most just went straight to SC immediately which yields 670-850BHP on stock engine.

So in a years time I will have the dilemma, spend around $3000 and have 500 horsepower, be NA and focus on reducing weight. Or spend $10,000 and have around 700 horsepower, I am thinking POWAH!!! :D

Clearly power! Go SC or you'll end up making another car like the M3

Still no update from my dealer... awful at answering questions or emails.

Gibbo. Could you send me Karen/Andy's email details? Going to cut out the dealer now for updates. Cannot find their details on Mustang6G.
