Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Basically they are happy to pay you the minimum they can for the role.

The thing is they are then likely to offer you more money once you hand in your notice. At this point after going through all the interviews i am always inclined to leave still unless there was an amazing counter offer.

Agreed, there's also a high possibility that it makes things awkward at work and they doubt your dedication to the cause. Depends how understanding your manager is really.

Not having much luck at all. Thought I'd have more than enough to land the Openreach Engineer role, but got knocked back for that too. I'm not sure what's going on, but my interviewing must be poor. I seem to get plenty interviews, but no offers.

Got another interview on Monday for Clinical Audit Manager for the ambulance service, more pay and better hours/holidays. But again doubt I will get it.

Yeah that's the impression that I got. She did say that if I received an offer that I should come to her with proof before I hand in my notice.

I am much like you in this regard however, if its going to be this much of a battle to get a pay rise every time they pile more work on me I don't really feel incentivized to stay. Any counter offer would have to be 15% over and above what I was getting elsewhere.

Still haven't found the time to look at my CV, hoping to revisit it this weekend and then I'll upload the template here for people to poke fun at!

Interesting - an agent got in contact about an opportunity a couple of days ago. I found the opportunity later that day and it was 15 days old.. not expecting a response.
Got a call today to say that the hiring manager had rethought the role and made it a more junior role with a 10K drop but liked my CV.

So either
a) the agent got a rejection because it was late and they've hired a junior person from within by adapting the role for them.
b) see (a)

Well i have just applied to my 500th job since the start of the year. Less than 10 responses so far and only 2 interviews, both of which never bothered to respond after.

I got an email on Friday asking to do a telephone interview and what time would be good for me. I replied Friday night saying Monday afternoon would be good. I haven't heard anything since. Should I wait until tomorrow evening and then follow up with another email?

Time to overhaul your CV perhaps?

I have no idea what to do with it now, had it professionally down, had HR people look at it, CEO's of companies etc getting frustrating.

Just heard back from the prison service, got through the interview but they have decided they are no longer recruiting for the positions I applied for so that was several months of wasted effort for a job that didnt even exist.

Hmm mixed bag today.. applied to a financial opportunity via an agent this morning, upon discussing it later today it turns out it's a micro-loans style company.. something I hate with a passion (goes against personal POV) so I've retracted the application.
Also got contacted by another agent.. interesting opportunity..

Been averaging two applications a day at the moment, but I need to get this up to three or four. That's two after searching and ensuring i've not applied to them or they're way out of date.

Tomorrow sees week 5 of one opportunity - I've emailed the agent but no response but it's not unusual for him to not respond for a couple of days. Giving this one the benefit of the doubt because it's interesting. Will call him tomorrow because it sounds like either it's a negative or the company has problems justifying the position..

Applications direct take priority, and I'll start looking at contracting again I think.. really think the economy has slowed - regardless of what people are saying..

good for you for sticking by your principles, though don't bother with that agent again, contact a few other agents and move on - once you've reneged on an opportunity they'll probably stick you at the bottom of the pile unless you're really good

Been there my friend.

Started on a tact of doing speculative HR emails - direct to companies where I believe my skills match with their business directly.

Third tact is starting to look at the contract market. IR35 makes the whole thing unattractive (it's funny how being a contracting company is not seen as a risk by the IR). I have an initial specification for the contract with a possible quick(ish) employment but in the end it's not what I want - perhaps I'm being childish for looking at roles I actually want rather than for running a company that just does chunks of work for people.

Mrs is sort of making noises that I should take it but for someone who really has focused their entire career being creative and making things.. it's a real slap in the face just being a hired gun.

Just an update - speculative does seem to be getting some more directional feedback.

If you send a linkedin profile URL, you can see if they read your profile. I've also had a response asking for a word version..

So that's more feedback and activity than direct linkedin or job site applications.. it does take a little more time to write the covering email but it certainly seems to get some interest in return.

Go to linked in - in the search put something like "software <your town or county>" then start looking at the list of companies that appear. Go through the list and have a look at their website HR.. then if they're a match with your experience or background interests and the company... write out a speculative introductory email showing the points they may be interested in..

I've now exhausted the hometown here.. and going through surrey :D

Another thing is just before the new jobs in Aug come in.. connect with all the recruiters (I save mine till the end of the month).. the impulse of activity then sends your linkedin profile sky high. The recruiters then review your profile.. you're fresh in their minds and the activity gives you momentum..

I've recently started and completed a job hunt. Been at the same company 4 years after graduating and fancied a change. Applied for a few jobs on LinkedIn and uploaded my CV to CWJobs. Huge mistake I was spammed by recruiters non stop! Literally 30-40 missed calls a day.

On the plus side the ones that bothered to email me actually got a response, and I've found a new job pretty quick. Started searching Monday 13th, phone interviews by the Friday, face to face last Wednesday and several offers over the weekend,

I am however absolutely bricking it now! My first 'proper' job change and I'm quite nervous about leaving the comfort zone of my current employer! Oh well onwards and upwards I hope!

Congrats :D

PS it gets harder as you get older.. I can see why older people start their own companies now!

WOOOHOOOOOOOO...

Well, after a total of 3 interviews (2 in person and 1 via telephone) over the space of a month or so, and then some waiting to finalize, I just sealed the deal on a new position at an awesome company!

Funny thing is that I hadn't applied for a job in years as I'd been with the same company and only moved internally and I was very anxious how my prospects were... then the first major position I applied for the people really liked me and I got it.

Very significant payrise too over my current position too... much celebrating will be had over the next couple of weeks. :D
