Forgot how bad job searching was :(

I made the jump from a dead end systems administrator role to a security analyst. A lot of work in my spare time studying which paid off. It will finally be good to specialise.

Been thinking of redoing my CV with a management slant to it. I have 6 years of Event and rescue management experience including instructing a large number of rescue management course. Problem is it has mostly been voluntary work and isn't really traditional management experience so not sure if there's any point. What do people think?

Also its now coming up to 8 months unemployed should I add a bit in my \cv about what I have been doing to find work etc?

Recently got back from my holidays and im over the moon, I must have been to around 20 interviews and assessments in the last 4 months and i've now been accepted for a Mechanical Engineer apprenticeship at Outokumpu (global leader in stainless steel) pay for an apprenticeship is very very good and goes up every 6-12 months also. They also pay for me to go a training centre which is part of a University for 6 months solid before hand. Handed my notice in today looking forward to this career change and its something ive been wanting to do for years.

Sorry not posted in this thread much but was very demoralised with how bad it was, must've sent off for nearly 20 jobs and only got 1 response saying thanks for the interest but.. anyway I went for an interview in London last Wednesday (didn't want to put anything on here or tell anyone as I really didn't want to jinx it) and got informed today I have got the job so spent a good portion of the evening signing up to an umbrella company and then went out and had a few shandys.

It's only a 3 month contracting job but hopefully it will lead to bigger and better things and just a quick message to all you people still looking, good luck and try not to get too downhearted (I'm not trying to gloat at all just trying to inject a bit of positivity for people as I couldn't believe the lack of acknowledgement I got (or didn't get actually!!))

http://www.cio.com/article/2419551/...s-to-fight-depression-in-your-job-search.html

The dumb thing is contracting, IR35 is designed to prevent disguised employment however companies are using a 3 month initial contact explicitly to provide a fast-HR way to get rid of people if it's not working for them. The problem is going contract-perm in the same company is highly risky for the contractor given the government default position sees the previous contract as employment rather than providing a service..
Last time I used an umbrella contract company in 2009.. I hated the way I was treated at the end of the contact (moving jobs to a perm position elsewhere) by the umbrella company.

Still looking, had an interview by phone on friday and found monday I was rejected. I tried taking some photos in the mirror of myself - it confirmed that my body language is one of being depressed with rolled over shoulders etc. So I assume my vocal response on the phone is not stellar. So I think #2 in that link (exercise) is needed.. luckily I already have a routine getting up before 8 and getting to bed before 10pm with job hunting, however I tend to spread the hunt over the day so I think I may attempt to condense my hunt time, add in a time devoted to exercise and something constructive.

Another issue is that I have found myself looking at job sites at 10pm .. which is not conducive to switching off and spending time with the wife.

Well re doing my CV has seemed to work, been offer a job but they are wanting me to do 40 hours of unpaid training. To me that seems like a massive **** take but having been unemployed for 7 months don't really have a choice!

In a world of **** at the moment :(

A large company are trying to headhunt me for a really nice job - something that would be one of the best things I could get in the whole UK, within the field I work in.

Trouble is, the hiring company are a client of my existing company - and I'm stuck in the middle of a frigging non-compete clause, one set of lawyers is saying I'm fine, the other is saying "nope, I can't go"

To top it all off, my existing company don't have any work that fits within my skillset, so i've become an expensive office ornament for the last 100 or so days,

It ends up with a whole load of people making decisions over what I do, where I have a limited say - and I can't afford my own lawyers to deal with the whole thing.. frustrating... :(

Like buses, literally 30 seconds after i accept the offer I get an email from the prison service telling me a role has become available. Double the pay so its a no brainer, if i pass the pre employment checks. Not expected to start till mid september/october so I guess I wont say anything to the other job until closer to the time!

Started a new temp job yesterday, just a data cleansing clerk and for the next 4 weeks I've gotta search for email addresses of companies, so extremely boring, but its a job whilst waiting to hear back from some of the graduate positions I've applied for.

I've just started job junting, im well scared!

Worked at the same company (Being promoted) for the past 15 years, I want something more local (Kent, rather than London) so don't have a lot of options.

Really worried about it but I really don't like where I am anymore.

Still looking for an entry level job

Had my interview with BT Openreach, but was unsuccessful. Looking for something similar, decent pay and no experience needed, also with career progression.

If anyone can put me in the right direction that would be appreciated!

Since i accepted a job offer I have been given 5 interviews and offered 2 more jobs. Who knows why the last 7 months I didn't get a thing. Fingers crossed my checks for the prison service all go through!

Phone interview next week :) and a a friend has passed my CV through to a colleague directly who's already given me confirmation of receiving the email..

It seems that you become instantly employable once you have a job again - I've had that before where I've been contacted immediately by several offers of interviews etc. It seems that because one company has done the work and verified your skills and history.. the others immediately pile in.

Seems to be about a 16:1 ratio of applications and interviews if you're looking full time.

So last night I found out how to make a loads of money without having to work. Could earn around 58k.... All you need to do is have at least 14 kids!

Applied for a job on Wednesday night, got a phone call early Thursday morning and had a quick 5 minute telephone conversation. Asked me to come in for an Interview/assessment on Monday also said he would confirm via email time/date etc. Well I haven't received an email yet (nothing in the post either), should I be concerned? Or give them a quick call Monday morning to confirm if I haven't heard anything? (1st job interview in 15 odd years...)
