Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Anyone got preferred job sites for contracting jobs? Specifically in IT. Most of the normal ones I use are pretty rubbish for contract jobs and only really show perm roles

I've got a 6 month extension but wouldn't mind looking at new contracts given I've been here a year

Fairly new to this job searching malarkey. I am currently looking what's out there as I have been in my current role far too long.

The cheek - I applied for a job (looked perfect), get an email back inviting me for an interview only to find it's a different job specification and salary.

I query this, was it a mistake only to get our Head of Sales wishes to interview you for the position ... we think that you are an excellent candidate for this position.

My reply was polite but in a nutshell they want to interview me for something that is 20k less and moving from a senior position back to an executive. errr!

So I finally handed in my notice a few weeks back!

The plan now is to go into IT contracting. After I broke the news to my managers. Among the suggestions to change my mind. Was the option to remain as a contractor for x months.

I haven't given them a decision yet. As I'm currently reviewing the option with an accountant and other contracting buddies.

Added this into the 'Business and Moment thread' but thought I would share here also:

Well just checked my police application and I am greeted with this message:

'Further to your recent application, we are pleased to inform you that you have been successful at the short listing stage. We will be in contact with you shortly regarding the next stage of the process.'

Very happy to say the least! Still a long road ahead but keeping fingers and toes crossed.

30 years old and sick of the Sales Role, although money and perks are excellent I just feel it is a job and not a career.

Will be a big drop in wage being a Student Office but wife is fully behind the move so watch this space!

Anyone give me any suggestions on creating the best CV?

do you need to bullet point you main job responsibilities for each work experience, or is it better to have a section on the skills that you have and just list the previous jobs you had?

So many variances on CV's out there, currently in my job for coming up to 8 years and need a change.

Think I've just had a poor interview.

I had recently been put forward for my first contract role. The role itself is right up my street. Which makes me feel even more dissapointed.

It was a telephone interview which took place this morning. The whole thing was rather rushed, and I think that kind of threw me off balance... My agent says I shouldn't worry. But I am going to do what I want lol.

Hopefully the company gives me a second chance and invites me in for a second interview. As I know I'm right for the job... My CV / work history say I'm right for the job....

Now I wait...

Well I walked out of the doors of the company I've worked for for 30 years for the last time on Friday.

The factory is closing (for political reasons, we weren't losing money), and there's a phased redundacy because contracts need to be finished. About 80 went on Friday but I don't envy the ones left behind.

So, bummer. I'm getting a fair wedge so we can live ok for a year or so and I'm not fretting yet, so we'll see what transpires.

Senior is higher than executive? :o

Talk about inflated job titles!

Titles are serious bidness! Remember fondly mocking the Scandinavians for their love of job titles. Dated a bird that called herself a 'Global HQ Manager'. Neglected to mention in the fine print that she managed the reception desk of one other, a girl called Taffy from Bolivia with a rudimentary grasp of English.

People and their things eh :p

I think it's quite common for people to feel that way after interviews. We over analyse everything. I had an interview two weeks ago where I accidentally shook a guy's hand twice after leaving the luncheon. Everything went perfect but that was the only thing I remembered on the plane ride back. I sat like captain Picard the whole way back, sighing to myself for that lapse in my perceived 'coolness' :p

I got offered the job with every single thing I asked for a few days later. And some things I neglected to ask. I start in January.

Don't be too hard on yourself.

Is it just me or does anyone else really struggle with those applications where you have to re-write all of your CV and experience into different text boxes and then do a mini essay on why you're the one they want to hire.
