Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Ha ha ha, I know I shouldn't laugh but I've just had a message from my 'manager', he is putting together the paperwork tomorrow for a 3 month extension, not counting my chickens as it could still get canned but you have to laugh at the 'last minute.com' of it all

Indeed....perhaps take it if it does happen but I'd be tempted to push for a permanent contract or potentially look elsewhere, as they seem a but disjointed :p

Hmmm, there is a job at the place I'm at currently, but it's completely different...

Basically it's not for the same company, it's for another company that works here...It's not IT Support (which I'm doing now) it would be graphic related (so editing images and making them clearer etc etc) - Only issues as such are that my current job is reasonably straight forward, the other job is completely different but doesn't seem difficult at all in a graphics sense, however the guy currently is getting paid more than me there so it's a potential pay rise...

It's weird, I hate my actual job at the moment, but do I want to just jump ship to something else that I may be bored in?

Ooosshhh. Been bouncing about on 3 different temporary contracts in the same position where I work in a job I love, they keep nearly ending then getting extended again to meet project deadlines. Constantly having to look for other jobs every few months when the contract is ending, and it's a very niche industry where I'd likely have to move miles to another area in the country.
Today they asked me to become a permanent member of the team. So chuffed! I absolutely love my job, and have fallen in love with the city and area, and getting from Chester to Carlisle to see my girlfriend is a lot easier then driving from Essex to Carlisle! I can finally start planning my life more than a few months in the future, i.e. look to buy a house, move my GF to Chester, make myself a proper home :)

Seriously happy today!

Fantastic buddy :)

I just need a fresh start somewhere I think, something completely different, doing the same old IT Support has started to takes it's toll on me.

All the best Benny.

Regarding salary, I guess it depends if you think the job will be a good stepping stone or not? In which case the interview might be good exposure anyway.

As for me, we're apparently getting a pay review in terms of how much the surrounding area pays others, so if that doesn't come back very positive I'll probably have to think of jumping ship sadly.

Got laid off 2 weeks ago due to it being too quiet. The following day I had interview arranged which I passed and done an assessment which I believe I passed as I got contacted about being vetted. Didn't hear anything since that.

I got a phone call yesterday from a company I worked for before, went in today signed contract and I start Monday :D Way better hours and pay too :)

Excellent!

Well, sounds and looks like there are going to be no promotions or pay rises here at our place...Looks like my plan of staying two years and seeing how things pan out is coming true in terms of moving on, best spice the CV up I guess....Shame.

I'd rather not be in a job that i hate, i don't want a long term career in that as i'm currently doing a part-time uni course in Software Engineering. I think i'd enjoy a more customer facing role.

By retail i mean fairly low-level jobs: checkouts, shelf stacking etc. I don't think i'm being unreasonable when i say i don't want a job is hospitality. There are plenty of jobs available in Llandudno and Conwy and i've applied for pretty much every one that becomes available. There was some uncertainty with the bus service that i use for the last 6 months, this has now been confirmed and the bus route i use is being withdrawn 1st May. :(

I don't like making excuses but i can't see that looking too good when applying for jobs, no driving license and relies on a bus service that's disappearing in less than 8 weeks with no sign of another operator to replace Arriva. As said before, withdrawing the bus has been on the table for the last 6 months.

Having a current job and up to date CV improves future employment prospects, with this job you could potentially afford a car/cheap run around until you build up more.

My 'skills' are in IT, when 2008 came round I got made redundant. I took whatever was needed, worked in Wickes delivery fence panels, work in a metal factory stamping out the wholes in metal for what plasterers use on edges...Just gotta do what you've gotta do.

My assumption is you are partially well off, or have some form of security at home otherwise you would need to grab any old job :p

All the best to you bud. Just remember, you can apply to a job more than once. Why not also pop in to local stores and ask face to face?

I was made redundant at the end of June. Got a decent payout. I'm still unemployed.

June - Took some time out, looked for jobs here and there, got some personal things done.

July - Applied for first job. Interview went great. Turned down. 'Overqualified'.

August - 2nd Job interview. Went amazing. Weeks went by hearing nothing. They closed the role without hiring anyone.

September - Went travelling. Applied for 1 job a bit above my pay grade. No interview.

October - Applied for some 'out there jobs' that I fancied. No interviews.

November - Applied for a job below my pay grade, but with the chance to move up. Really like it. Interview went really well. Apparently between me and one other person. Haven't heard a word a week and a half since. Still waiting.

This sucks.

I'd potentially call the recruiter, or if it was direct email reception/the contact.

:)

Onwards and upwards pal

Either get a second part time job/home based freelance work or accept it's time to move on and make sure you ask plenty questions in the interview to make sure the new job is a good fit.

Looking at other jobs available, are there similar roles to your current one which pay more?

Probably not due to the clientele.

Technically it's an IT Support role, with some random jobs (but more enjoyable) thrown in.

It's a shame, as I'm really struggling to be able to do anything on my current wage

Having a stressful time finding work at the moment, I would very much appreciate some advice.

I have just over 5 years experience working for a mid sized managed service business who sell telecommunication / IT solutions. I worked in the 2nd line support team providing technical support for our Cisco VOIP clients.

At the back end of last year I went self employed to persue a contract locally which did not turn out how I'd hoped so I am looking to get back in to a permament role. I do not have an official Cisco certification although this is were my core skills lie, I am studying for my CCNA in the meantime. Ideally I am looking to jump back in to a similiar role I was previously in however realise with no certifications I may need to settle for less and work my way through the business / finish my cert.

Any recruitment firm recommendations or ideas?

Qualifications aren't everything, I have none and never had many issues getting IT jobs, if your experience in the field speaks for itself company's are willing to overlook the qualifications, if anything state on your CV you are currently learning whatever qualification

As of today my role has officially become redundant. I need to start the hunt for new work but so far everything has left me rather low & somewhat lacking in confidence. This is the first time in approx 14 yrs that I've not been in work & it's truly terrifying for me. :(

To make it worse I can't determine what I would like to do next.

If it's a case of money, go to an agency and take whatever you need to for the interim
