Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Congratz Guest2.

I have a question about Job Agencies in Birmingham, is it a case of calling them giving a CV and then asking them to find me a job. I'm really not that fussy as long as its minimum wage and has 40 hours as its what I'll be doing only for a year alongside my Masters Degree :)

Thanks Infam0us.

I have signed up to the following at had calls from loads of agencies all over UK

I had a call off Hays, Reed, Elan and a few other big ones and many smaller ones

Monster
Jobserve
Total Jobs
CWJobs
Indeed
Myleedsjobs

Out of those I had most success with Jobserve as far as matched jobs go but calls came from agencies, not sure which site they found me on. Just update your CV and Covering letter with each of them and fill out the profile. Covering letter doesnt matter as much and it would have taken me ages to write/change a cover letter to each application

I had a call this morning from a stage one interview I went to last week and I have got the job, no second interview required. :)

The job market is so much better than it was this time last year. In March 09 I had one interview in 3 months and about 4 calls from agencies. Forward a year and since I was made redundant towards the end of June I have had calls about every 3 days from different agencies and been to 5 interviews, one of which I really wanted but came a close second and the 5th I got which I also really wanted. I also had another 2 but didnt bother going because the roles would limit me and I would have ended up looking for something better (which they picked up on I think)

Jobseekers and housing benefits have definately been good to me the short time I have been on them but now its time to get back to the real world of waking up at 7am and doing a hard days graft.

Huddys interview guide worked a treat again, thanks. Wish me luck in my new (better paid) job :)

Congratz on the job. Could you please link me to Huddy's interview guide. Thanks

I am finding it a lot tougher than I thought I would to find work.

Applying for about 3 jobs a day, winning about 1 interview every 2 weeks.

And yes, the (many) rejections they don't even bother to say 'no' - just a painful silence.

It costs them more to send out rejection emails / letters this day and age due to the amount of people sending apps...So they just don't bother.

However my other half has been sending letters to vets etc and they've all been getting back to her atleast saying 'no not at this present time' which is just nice I think

Hope everyones luck gets better, the job market is heravily geographical...I keep getting calls from Hayes interactive or something about jobs in Oxford (OT related i think)...So have a look that way to anyone to lives over there

No job yet Delvis?

No no, I am working now (again :p)....Had a job earlier in the year for an IT company which ened up selling everything, so I had to leave...

Then worked for wickes for 3 / 4 months to get some income, just doing deliverys in the van etc.

Started working at a school as an IT bod basically, so a massive downgrade to what I'm used to....Just changing toners and turning projectors on and off atm so it's not really technical at all at the moment....But after two weeks od working there I'm not on 6 weeks holiday as its only term time work at the moment! So the pay is lower, but it's a start :)

Hoping to go back in September and ask for some more responsibilitys :)

Well it's a damn sight better than nothing. Those kind of jobs are rare around here, or at least highly competitive. Just as much danger of being overqualified than underqualified for the role.

just ring round all the charities, centres for the homeless, meals on wheels etc, you should find something eventually.

At this rate I'll be a client of theirs :/

You should move to Leeds. I found out yesterday I start work on monday and today I have had 2 calls for interviews next week at quite good places and one interview on the week of the 16th at a large legal firm (all working as IT Support 1st/2nd line) Since end of June I could have had 10 interviews, 5 of quite I went to.

This time last year I had 1 in 3 months (which i got)

My interview with Hays was cancelled and they didn't tell me.

Rang up Gordon Yates and got an interview with them, waiting to hear back from RHR and also waiting for a phonecall back from Hays to re-book my interview when the woman returns from being ill...phew stressful.

All i want is a customer services inbound job until i find something in buying. :(

There was a junior buyer job listed on asda a week or so ago. That would be a very good job to go for if you want to be a buyer

sr4470 - With benefits you could afford to relocate! £600 a month and thats without council tax paid (just jobseekers and housing)
