Forgot how bad job searching was :(

After leaving School I'd been job searching for about 3weeks. Handed out at least 10 CV's and Applied to about 4 places on-line, neither of which got back to me.

Now I'm working in OcUK Tech :) Really enjoying it and I've only done one day so far! Working part time over summer and switching to Saturdays when I start college in September. Not much training is needed as I have had two work experience placements here before.

Got a job :D

Contracts came through the post a few days ago, job is a Graduate Process Engineer at an oil refinery.

It was the same company I worked on placement with, I got mucked around a bit (got offered a job, signed a contract, they cancelled it etc) but glad it now seems to be settled.

He's saying the council will pay £400 a month rent for a single person's room in addition to JSA. Somehow I doubt that, not in Leeds anyway.

Is your flatmate employed\a student?

My flatmate works fulltime and I'm unemployed, have been for a few months bar a brief stint in Wetherspoons a week ago. Howcome the Councils paying for his rent? If I don't find a job I'll be out of a place to live soon as my flatmate can't afford to pay for the place by herself.

Congratulations guys :)

they can do... very close to that anyway. even offer loans for the deposits

Great, now teleport me to Leeds, get my JSA claim instated, find a landlord that accepts DSS tenants that also has a free room. Oh wait, there aren't any because unemployed people get stigmatised

£400 a month is going to get very expensive when you're only getting £700 a month after tax in a typical job.

That aside, it is interesting how the attitude towards JSA\benefits has changed in here...

Put a word in for me? Come on you know I am good for it! :p

Sent my CV to OcUK a while ago but not heard anything back...maybe I'll send a CV by post and see what happens.

Registering with Rullion Personnel Services in Leeds on Thursday to see if I can get some temp work at least for the time being.

But tomorrow I'm down to the Job centre to sign on. Question though, I had the interview a few weeks ago and have been to sign on once since then yet I haven't even seen a bit of JSA money in my account. Does take time to process my application or something? I found the job centre staff rather unhelpful regarding this. :o

Earns less than the £16k threshold then. If the rent's shared between both of you then you can't make a claim yourself. However, if you have a seperate contract then you should put in a HB claim.

Just had a telephone interview and I totally messed up in the first question. I could hear some guy in the background saying 'What?!', dunno if was related to me or not but I feel like crap:(
Did ok in the other questions but arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :(

I just had a telephone interview too :)

Not sure how it went really, didn't seem to last long, but I answered all their questions, maybe they were wanting longer answers!

They were very specific questions, and considering the job spec they were only around 2 of the areas (out of approx 18 'requirements').

My hope is my initial application + CV showed I satisifed enough in the other areas and they wanted to chat about the ones that weren't really mentioned. Didn't get the chance to sell myself :(

Apparently I'll find out in a day or 2 if I've got a face to face out of it, but I'm not too confident.

Haha I've done that. Had a telephone interview for a contract at Centrica, first question was 'what do you know about Centrica?'. My answer 'eh? I thought I was applying for Capita!'. Doh!

I got the job though :p

Interview 8 = result!

Accepted a Network Engineer position at leading UK datacentre last week :D

Congratulations :)

Dont suppose i could be a bit cheeky and ask to see the cv/covering letter you used? Im about to apply for a couple of similar positions next week and would be nice to compare mine to a successful one.

Gracias
Ian

Hi Ian,

I didn't use a covering letter, just attached my CV to a brief email detailing my current situation.

Best of luck.

Anyone work in sales? I'm thinking of applying to some sales jobs. Can you tell me what it's like and how it developed you personally and professionally?
