Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Hah, yeah seems to be that sort of thing. "Interesting team challenges". Ah well, I'm not in a position to be picky so anything is better than nothing. Who cares if I'm another shelf stacker with a degree, at least it's money coming in!

I was a shelf stacker without a degree at the purple place ... I know, I feel dirty :p

No it wasn't that, the contract specified I couldn't work in IT consulting for 12 months afterwards, had to give 6 months notice, and *ANY* outside work (not just IT) was unacceptable. The 2 days a year I do IT consulting (i.e. helping sort out a website or putting together a PC for someone were classified as consulting, so would have been in breach of contract for looking at a computer).

Edit: and that contract was a long way from being normal.

Double Edit: The sticking point was the company would not let me invest my own money with another company, regardless of what market the investment was in. It was an outrageous and unenforceable clause to the contract.
I remember reading about this practice before, apparantly it's pretty common in the IT industry especially among the bigger players where good employees may be regularly poached. Largely they're completely unenforcable legally and just wishful thinking on the part of the company.

Man, just got offered a job, the area manager and store manager really like me, my references said I was good ( they told me) but now they are sending my paper work to HR for a credit check ( it's a financial services job) and now I'm really worried, really ****es me off, my credit is not that good and I could be celebrating but it kinda annoys me how we have to jump through many hoops now, why not just do a criminal check, just because someone has a few student loans doesn't mean they are going to rob a bank.

I'm looking to get out of my job now. Two years in and working every evening and every weekend has taken enough toll. I want out, I want a social life - or at least the option for one - back again.

First step, I've redone my CV and updated my Monster profile. Next step I suppose is taking myself down the agencies.

CW Jobs as well? :)

WIN WIN!

Fingers crossed for you.

Just got back from the tour now, about 15 of us now have an induction on Monday then its 2 days of training after that!
Seems a lot smaller on the inside than I was expecting, the cranes have taken my fancy. (Hopefully we get to pick where we work!) :D

After looking for a job for almost 4 months I've had 2 job offers today in 2 hours lol.

First is a 3 month contract with PC world which ends in August. Then in September I start my job at the council. So I'm pretty happy, especially that I've managed to fill the time between now and the council job with an easy decently paid job in a technology store :p

I swear jobs are like buses! No offers for 3/4 months, then I get two interviews this week and got a call from both places with offers today.

Time to celebrate at the pub woohey!

Similar to me I've not heard anything off any job that I applied for since Christmas then this past week I had 3 interviews lined up, first interview I have I'm now at the job inductions for. :p

Got an interview/assessment day thing later on. It's only for a driving job, but it's a job. They say "As the selection event is practical, please dress appropriately for the event, something smart but casual would be perfect (no trainers please).". I'm wearing a suit, it would be daft not to.

well thanks to doing something to my right foot iv had to jack in the agency work i was doing, so now im back looking for something.

god only knows if il get anything as it took me a year to get my last spot of work and thats with knowing people there :S

I know everyone says this, but stick at it and keep the faith. I don't know if you saw my thread last week when I finally got a graduate level job but it took me 22 months since graduating. I was working horrid hours in retail too. I just kept plugging away. There's nothing to lose.

Just finished the interview in cloudy aberdeen and have settled down for a quiet pint before seeing some letting agents.

Went pretty well but a few of the trick questions were just that. Elementary thinking and pre-gcse physics, but It's crazy when in the interview situation your brain locks up and turns into jelly. Still, feedback wad good and I'll find out hopefully next week.

Did have a call from a recruiter when I landed at the airport about a position at a composites company. Sweet until he mentioned the pitiful wage fit for a desperate grad. Stupid engineering career is stupid!

Just over 2 weeks left here before taking my redundancy and running!

Off to look at some rooms to rent in Swindon on Sunday as I'll be staying there during the week.

I may or may not be looking for a job in the near future...It all depends on whether or not the powers that be can give me an adequate pay rise...As I can't live on this current wage :(

What was the job you were interviewing for out of interest?

Got the job. I'm quite happy. It's not a career but its money in my pocket. And for the time being that's just fine.
Good luck everyone.

I am currently in the process of relocating from Nottingham to Manchester. I've had interviews with 3 and managed secure 2 of them, waiting to hear back from the 3rd. Working in Nottingham + 1000 miles driving to and from Manchester + looking for somewhere to live, all in a week has taken its toll.

Having an absolute nightmare trying to get a graduate job or get on a graduate scheme. I Keep getting interviews and keep getting beaten by someone with more or more relevant experience. Luckily I have some work with my old man but that's only a month's worth, but gives me some time. I can't help but think I'm just terribly unlucky at the moment as the roles I have been applying for have been ideal for me.

On a side note since finishing uni recently I can't help but think I should be doing something more productive with my time whilst job hunting. Perhaps learning a language or some new software/programming language but cannot decide on what.
