Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Sorry for an amateur question but is it normal to phone a employer a day or 2 after applying to see if they are interested in my application? I have found a good placement opportunity for summer holiday send my CV this morning with a good cover letter and was thinking of phoning them tomorrow or Wednesday.

I would say this is almost the standard thing to do, whenever you feel it is an appropriate time to check up on your application (leave it a bit longer if you apply by post just to allow time for it to reach them) just ring up. It allows them to put a voice to the sheet and improves your chances.

Nice, phoned them this morning and talked to their recruiter we had informal chat I was surprisingly relaxed I was kind of nervous before phoning.

Anyway he asked for me to come in on Thursday for a informal interview I guess that is good? I am not sure how this would compare to a proper interview or what questions to expect.

They'll like that you were willing to take action to contact them. Wear a suit, look keen to learn, tell them what you feel you can offer them and what your goals are for the placement and how you feel this role will aid you. Do a bit of research into the company and the department in which you'll be working.

Anyone want to apply for a desktop support role in Regents Wharf -Kings Cross? Starting in August, email in trust

Just thought I would post in here after lurking for so long. Been in the same boring dead end job for the last 4 years working rubbish hours (anything from 6am to 1am the next day) for very little pay so not really much to post about before.

Applied for a few jobs over the last year, wanting to try my hand at something a little more up my street. Anything to do with helping or offering advice (helpdesk/training/computers) is something I enjoy and after a lot of 'thank you for your application, unfortunately etc etc' I decided to apply to a new Sky callcentre in sheffield as a general customer service advisor purely to start fresh in a new building with room to advance at later points into areas that are available.

Had the first interview. Told about the company and did some tests. Followed up last thursday with a more formal 1 to 1 interview. Told I would hear back within 7 days if I had been successful. 7 days pass. No word on the job, chalk it off and keep looking I guess. 8th day, get the call. I have not got the job of customer service advisor, they want to offer me one step up on the technical advisor team. Decent hours, great benefits and a step in the direction of what I want to be doing in life. Quite happy today. Also works out that I have 1 weeks holiday from my current emloyers booked for the week before I start.

Good things do happen to people it seems (Although found a crack in my car windscreen today which was lame).

Just thought I would post this as I am well chuffed.

So just keep your chin up. There are opportunities it seems, just takes time and some patience.

I applied for a job at Asda last week, got an e-mail this morning saying "Thanks for applying online to become an Asda colleague, and I’m delighted to invite you along to one of our selection events. We call these events ‘Asda Magic’. As well as giving us the opportunity to find out whether you’re right for the job. It’s about letting you see what goes on and deciding whether Asda is right for you." ....

Booked in for 14th at 6pm.. I really hope I get it I'm desperate for money!

Congrats man, that's awesome :)

Ungrats me, I quibbled some stuff in the contract and they promptly cancelled the offer. Probably a lucky escape if that's how they behave.

Fingers crossed, got a job interview tomorrow. The last job I was unwilling to take fell through as it was far to junior, this one is for a Senior Management position. Quite nervous as i've never interviewed at this level before.

Well plan a are 6 months old today. Can't believe it really its gone by so fast. We went from a partnership to a ltd and took on a third director. Practice will be RIBA chartered in a few weeks and we are as busy as bee's

I've just finished my Degree BSc Computer Information Systems, and need to start looking for somewhere to work in London, I'll probably only get a mediocre grade overall so no idea what job I should be aiming for. No idea what I want to do, and having almost no work experience in the world of IT apart from a Temp data entry clerk about 3 years ago.

Where should I start? :D

I've already got a profile going on Monster, and I've been looking on GraduateTalentPool but seriously no idea what to go for.

I got a rubbish grade, and found a local entrepreneur starting up an IT business. Worked with him for a couple of years on not a great deal of money getting experience. Once you have those 2 years behind you, nobody gives a poodle about your degree. Personally I think it was a waste of 3 years.

I just finished uni and I got a job in desktop support in a hospital. Mainly because I need experience and can't get anything better :(

The experience will be great for my CV, though, because I've never had a job involving computing before :D

Whats a rubbish grade?
