Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Spent the last 2 weeks sending my CV to various Agencies and Companies (about 5 a day) and I'm now getting to the Depressed stage of things as I'm running out of avenues!!...

I know I only lost my Job on the 13th, but I've been working solidly for the last 10 years and don't like the feeling!!..

Unfortunately my skills are not in great demand and a bit specialist!.. even though I keep telling agencies that CAD work is CAD work, it matters little that I've been doing Civil Engineering for the last 10 years, I can do Electrical and Mechanical Draughting also!! they keep spinning their wheels!..

I've even said now I'm willing to commute (M4/M5 corridor from London to Exeter and beyond into Devon/Cornwall, hell I'm even considering Wales!!)...

I'm planning my Wedding in 3 months, I've got bills to pay and I'm getting desperate!.. not looking forward to Wednesday when my 1st signing on is!..

i just want to roll up in a ball and cry at the moment!!.. :(

Just keep at it!

Interestingly I took a job up in Swindon and I'm based in Devon, needs must and all.

Not commutable really unless on a lot of money, so I'm staying up there in the week.

Had my first interview out of 3 today for a data analyst job. Had to do a search engine test which was terribly easy, hopefully won't be too long until they get back to me about the 2nd test and the final interview. Only a 6 month contract but it'll be good to get some experience doing something like that and of course the money which is all I'm bothered about right now. :)

Got my 2nd test on Monday morning, then if I pass that they'll call me back for an interview. :)

Well, I've done two days at my new job at Asda, and Kwik-Fit ring me today offering me a job (I had an interview 5 weeks ago!), the pay is better than I could have wished for, so I'm going for it! Plus it's doing what I like doing and what I'm good at doing.

So I need to work out how to resign from Asda now, never done such a thing before :p I'm only on a temp contrac so there's no notice period.

I wouldn't worry too much about asda. They turn over a large amount of staff and will soon replace you if they need the job filled. Being two days into a temp contract should mean you could probably write "I quit" on a bit of toilet roll and walk out that day without batting an eyelid. (ex-asda employee :D)

Here is a synopsis of my test I'll be doing tomorrow

The test will take 30 minutes and you will be asked to compare two columns of information line by line, confirming if the information is the same or different in each case.

I've also got to complete more than 50% of it during the 30mins and get an accuracy of 95% or above.

Should be well easy if the sample I was given is anything to go by.

I'm yet to experience the Job Centre, have just started on my search for desktop/server support in Edinburgh.

Whilst you get plenty of people saying "I wouldn't touch desktop support with a 10ft pole", I'm not overly bothered. It's all experience at the end of the day, always opportunities to use different software or see different/unusual problems.
I'm not looking to stay in support forever but am happy to do it. :)

Hell, at the moment I'd even take data entry roles. Any job will do for me, as long as the rent/bills are covered, then there is plenty freedom to look at retraining. :D

My brother is looking for someone to do support, central Aberdeen for an oil and gas services company. Contact me if you are interested.

Haha, yeah, I'm not too worried about them :) I'll stop off at Kwik-Fit tomorrow and give them all the documents they need and hopefully get the ball rolling, they want me to start ASAP :)

I wish, just moved away from Aberdeen with the GF. That's the reason I am unemployed. :(

AndrewP, sorry, somehow missed the post from you. Will send you an e-mail for some more details if that is alright. :)

Just finished this 2nd test, was pretty easy again. Something like 700 comparisions, and I got to 600 or so. If you had some kind of OCD or something you'd beast it!! Girl said we'd be told by at latest Wednesday for the interviews to be on Thursday.

I was under the impression that there would be a lot of database searching involved, but the girl said the info they look for mainly comes from internet searching, so I'd be getting paid for doing what I do a couple of hours a day!

Yeah, go for it, address in trust. I think the positions are out to recruitment agencies and we've started phone interviews, so sooner rather than later :).

Well finaly got a straight answer from the jobcenter regarding training.

in short the upper limit is £500 and you will need a letter from a company saying they will take you on if you have the training. BUT its not guaranteed you will get the training even with the covering letter from a employer who will take you on.

the guys view who i spoke to today was rather blunt, do it yourself or live on benefits. all well and good when you have skills and options but what the hell do you do when you dont have any ?!

the guy even agreed i was in a bit of a sticky spot with were i live and my age (33) as im too old for aprentiships localy and theres nothing else about.

guess il just wait for tuesday when i sign on and see what they tell me face to face, but if its anything like the above and they refuse to help god only knows how il react

My Job Centre doesn't bother harassing me, they cant withhold benefits anyway as I stopped getting them, so just go in for my NI stamps. They occasionally make a show of trawling through their crap database and I tell them none of it is suitable. Passed phone interview at one company and they want me in for a 2h face to face, got an interview for a position tomorrow and waiting on the result of a second interview for a senior manager position. Couple more positions look to be coming online too.

Senior Manager thing didn't work out, which is fair enough as I'm a techie. Got on with the guys at "position tomorrow" like a house on fire, it's slightly sidewards in my career but the work is super interesting and it's a great company to have on the CV (although at my age i'm not planning to jump around). Go to meet the bosses boss tomorrow.

Good man :)

It seems the majority of graduate jobs out there are in recruitment, which is weird as you'd think if there's a lot of recruitment jobs it'd be because they need more recruiters to recruit for other jobs. But apparently not :p
