Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Well got another interview Wednesday, pay is quite a bit less than I have been getting but it's a potential job and appears to offer a good potential career path.

Fingers crossed for Wednesday.

Matt

My final day today on-site as my company lost the contract to another competitor. Good thing is that they are relocating and re-training me to do another job role but it's been an anxious past couple of months making my health suffer.

The company where I was based essentially outsourced it's I.T over 4 years ago to a global indian based supplier and they sub-contracted the on-site support out to the company who I work for. They recently decided to change this again, retain the indian outsourcer but change the on-site support to cut down on costs. Remove some of the on-site support in countries where they did'nt feel they needed that level of support anymore.

I was approached by both the indian outsourcer and the client to make sure that I had been asked if I was interested to transfer over. This kickstarted a month's worth of negotiations culminating in a phone call one friday evening from the indian outsourcer to say that actually they were not going to employ me after all and they were going to use someone from the new incoming IT provider.

I got to work on Monday to find this new person standing in reception asking me to let him in so that I could train him up on how to do my job role.

He literally sat down at my desk and took over my laptop and I was pushed to another part of the office.

I have had to endure this for the past few weeks and provide training.

I'm really relieved to still have a job but I think some people would have snapped and quit when they saw this new guy standing in reception.

After leaving my job 2 months ago I secured an IT support position in a school yesterday.

I have taken a pay hit from circa £19.5k to £17k, but this job is only 1 mile down the road, compared to the 70 mile daily commute I was previously doing, so at the end of the day I should be better off financially also.

Good work dude, i'm in IT Support in a school too currently..Wish I was on 17k :p, other guy I work with is which kinda sucks considering we practically do the same thing. He just 'works' the holidays :(

I'm out of a job this week. A bit nervous

What I'd really like to try is teaching kids programming at school.

Probably no schools would accept me without any teaching degree though?

I'll be out of a job come Saturday because they are getting rid of all the temporary staff. :( Suppose I better get job hunting in the morning.

@mejobloggs You'll need teacher training mate to teach properly.

You could become a teaching assistant - these are very appealing to schools with the lack of funding that they get.

You wouldn't be able to do anymore than this without some kind of teaching degree. It would now be too late to enrole on these for the next academic year.

Ok thanks. I might go talk to a few schools sometime

At this stage I'm not concerned about pay, more about finding a job I'm happy with. So teaching assistant would be a good way to try

I recently accepted a position for 1st line helpcentre staff, I feel everyone else in my situation would have turned it down as it's a very big pay-drop and is pretty much ignoring over 3 years experience, previous qualifications and degree...

In my mind though, a job is a job and if you need to take a couple of back-steps to move on then just do it. I'm actually looking forward to working for a new team and seeing what they are all about and how they work together.
In a few months I might regret this decision but I can't see it, I'm going in to show them what I can do, I'm sure there's a place for me further up and it's worth working for.

Edit: On a side note... Am I breaking the signature rules?
Different browsers and different machines are giving me unhelpful results...

A 2nd class ride is better than a 1st class walk as they say.

Better to be earning in a lesser skilled job than be on the dole imo.

Just keep looking whilst working for the right job to jump ship to is my advice

Indeed, more people like you!

At these times a job is a job, when something 'more on your skillset' comes along, by all means go for that

Well had the interview Wednesday, didn't hear back form the recuitment agency so called them and was told it was all possitive, trying to arrange a second interview.

This was reaffirmed in an email to myself.

Didn't hear nothing, so phoned them on Friday to be told they are trying to arrange a second interview, noticed today the job was readvertised on one of the forums yesterday so I assume I haven't got the job. I ****** hate recruitment agencies! Never know where you are with them.

regards,

Matt

Yesterday I had to do a online assessment for a job...would have thought a 10 page application form full of competency questions would be enough. Still don't know if I passed it or not. :o

It was called a logical reasoning test and it was bloody hard. See below (it was similar to this...)

Basically it would ask, what is the next in the series:

Had the second interview, not sure how it went as it was just a pleasant chat really, sat down with one of the other developers there and he took me through some of the things he is involved with.

Just got to sit and wait now, a decision will be made by close of play tomorow.

regards,

Matt
