Noticed a really weird glitch on Firefox with the rich text editor. Type in a short word/sentence, add an emoji, and you can't move the insertion cursor after the emoji with either the mouse or arrow keys. In Chromium based browsers however while the mouse doesn't work, using the arrow keys does.

I was just coming in to post that the hide avatars option is now working, that I've tried it and think it looks awful without them, absolutely soulless, totally devoid of any character whatsoever.

Each to their own though.

Indeed. Horses for courses. Good riddance

Next on my to do list is bigger padding between quoted posts. Right now I have to leave a space manually each time.

it's not just an old firefox - I've abandoned it , for chrome, until I search for a newer ff version and update all the dam extensions.
you can try out the raw xenfro frolo editor to see if issue is now patched https://froala.com/online-html-editor/

Yeah well haters are always more vocal than people who like stuff so I'm not losing any sleep over those who choose to switch them off :)

Well I liked the forum update, just never been a huge fan of the avatars. I used to like them like 10 years ago but then it just gets a bit old after a while.

I don’t get it

By turning them off you gain half an extra post? Is this the morale victory worth celebrating or is it a case of people just not liking their avatar?

It’s screen real estate that’s pointlessly wasted on every single post. It gets in the way of the actual content and doubles the amount of scrolling required to read the thread.

If you can’t see it, good for you, keep them active. But AFAIC it’s a massive UX win to be able to disable them.

It looks a lot cleaner without them. Most users have similar post counts so all you're seeing are the same few avatars being repeated in everyone's posts. It's not like we can glance at an avatar and see certain users stand out.

So for a lot I imagine they add no real value.

But if it's now optional why are you so bothered?
