The envelope confusion was because "empty open envelope" (which implies Read) was used for the Unread icon which used to be "open envelope with paper in it" (which implies Unread).

That mistake isn't a reason to abandon making modern icons, I hope they come back to it after dealing with higher priority stuff.

That caused confusion as well, but the icons all being the same colour was just not good visual design. If they aim to bring them back, make them obvious to differentiate between them, or you're just ignoring people with visual impairments.

I agree the white was a bit much but the icons much nicer.

Easiest implementation would be to use those icons (the correct way round) using the colours we have now. Was only an icon font so changing the text colour on them should have solve that problem.

Liking pixelated icons is a visual impairment.

It's like having a Lada badge on a Ferrari.

Barely noticeable at all on desktop. This a mobile complaint you making?

If they put the new icons back and made the colours not all the same then that would be an easy fix. Would basically be a 10 minute jobby for whoever was making them.

They look fine at 1080p. Which was fine over a decade ago, but everything else looks so smooth and flat they stand out with jagged edges on both my desktop (1440p), TV (2160p) and phone.

I don't see it on 1440p. The icons are simply too small (without zooming in) to make that big a difference. You must sit pretty damn close to your monitor!

In either case, I'm not against re-instating newer icons if the colour schemes of the old are respected.

The breadcrumb menu is oddly formatted on mobile, inconsistent spacing between each menu entry and trailing '<'. Breadcrumb separator has inconsistent direction between desktop and mobile versions, desktop = '>', mobile = '<'.

I see envelopegate is still going strong.
we need to change them to scrolls, that'll end the confusion and arguements!

please don't kill me;)

For anyone who is interested, I found the comments I posted when we moved to XF1.5 a few years back about how to navigate threads from the main forum list.

On a thread where you have unread posts.
Clicking the yellow envelope icon goes to the first unread post (the first one with a 'New' tag in the top right).
Clicking the thread title does the same.
Clicking the time/date under the username on the right hand side goes to the very last post in the thread.

Clicking the grey envelope icon goes to the first post in the thread.

The only difference is that the time/date is now above the username instead of under it, the behaviour of the envelopes/thread titles is exactly the same as it was before the upgrade last week.

Also, the envelopes we have now are the same envelopes we had last week before the upgrade.

:(

Does this mean there are no plans to improve and update them? The fresh, flat, non-pixelated ones we saw were a cruel experiment?

Can the black dot at least be made blocky/jagged to match the icons? That dot is too smooth, it doesn't match the nostalgic pixel art
