Forza 2 Demo - Feedback

Anyone else get a lot of motion blurring in this game?

I have never noticed it in other games I play. But this is the only thing I have played since adjusting the VGA settings that came with the latest dashboard update.

Only played it for a little while yesterday,

Graphically it is v good at 1080i, not quite PGR in my opinion, but very good none the less. Sound wise is spot on, the Ferrari's sounds superb, especially the overrun :D

Gameplay wise, is a little confusing, I know it is supposed to be a sim racer, unlike PGR and the GT series, but the brakes lock up way too easy even with ABS on, and the cars all seem like they have a 2 ton conrete block on the nose, making the cornering akin to turning a bus... I would have thought a race prepped Ferrari would be nibbler than it is in the game..

Been playing this game over the weekend. It's pretty darn good actually.

Boring as hell with the driving aids on, but turn them off... and it's a whole new game. Very fun and quite addictive.

Couple annoyances though:

The AI seems a bit smash'n'bash happy.

The car that I'm driving always seems to be "faster" in a straight line than everyone elses - regardless of its stats.

Why have all different cars on the track at the same time? Doesn't that defeat the point of determining who is the best driver?

Obviously the bad handling of the cars is terribly exaggerated from real life to make the game more interesting. But still, it can be annoying at times having to go unrealistically slow through corners to avoid understeering.

Tyres seem to cool down way to quickly and don't seem to wear. For instance I did a donut in a R2 car for about 5 minutes. Then I simply drove on some grass to magically cool the tyres down in 2 seconds and then I continued my laps as though my tyres were still in tip top condition.

Brakes don't seem to overheat and fade even though the discs were glowing red hot numerous times.

Theres no damage simulation in the demo.

Is the difficulty of the AI cars known as it might simply be that its locked at an easier difficulty, so the catch up thing that you have in the GT series could be active. :)

You have to remember that it is from the arcade section of the game.Even though, some of the things you mention are are WAY ott for a console game, even though it is tagged as a sim.

Totally agree with this, I tried yesterday with all aids on to see if it was any quicker on lap times. Result, slower, too restrictive and damn boring. Driving with the aids off just shows how good a job they have done with the handling on this game. It's grown on me loads and the full game is going to be brilliant.

Got to agree with what your saying, I find it hard to get tuned into the cars, I've ended up turning off Force feedback as it seems to hinder my driving and feels false, you can really work the car with the pedals now and its fun. Lap times are way off though.
The game has grown on me, there is some good racing to be had, but the AI cars are aweful, you've got more chance of staying on the track putting a move on Michael Schumacher :p and whats with getting nudged from behind and receiving a time penalty

I think they've made 'our' car faster just for the demo, to get people into it.

I think thre game looks great, the only problem I have with the graphics is that the frame stops for a split second once or twice per game, is anyone else getting this?

The handling is good and quite playful. But low speed handling is stupidly inaccurate. I know it took LFS several patches to get this absolutely right but it really is very very good now. I hope the Forza guys will fix this up before releasing the full game.

Another annoyance is there isn't a **** pit view. Why do so many console racing games seem to "cop out" of adding the creamé that is the cockpit. I always play LFS in this view because seeing the steering wheel on the screen gives you so much more feedback and understanding of how the car is handling. Playing Forza Demo and it always feels like some critical element is missing from the "feel" of the car and I'm convinced that it is the steering wheel (WITH the driver's hands correctly animated!)

Also the up and down shift buttons need to be changed as they're too far apart IMO. Or maybe I should just buy a steering wheel :p

Try the different views, the same car turns completely differently from view to view. Imo the cars are uncontrollable in chase view and yet easy to catch slides in bumper view.
I go from never making a turn or corner exit to being able to nail a lap. Thats with all aids off. I also find the fact that the cars are slower with aids on a bit unrealistic.

Minor bugs for me, the rest of the game has grown on me.

I havn't noticed one dip in the framerate ingame.I've been really impressed by how smooth it runs.

Re. the cockpit view...

It's possible that it just wasn't feasible to model every cars cockpit. Even if it were, add in the fact the numerous modifications you can make and it would have been a nightmare I reckon.

Plus, I would find it weird if I were using a steering wheel in front of me and then saw another wheel and pair of hands on the screen as well. That might just be me though.

As good as the cockpit view in PGR3 was, 'bumper' view was always more preferable.

I think the only slowdown i've seen was when i was being silly testing crash physics/damage and had a 100mph headon with the M3, the replay of this also dropped a frame or 2, but no quibble here, was quite horrific, specially with the lexus ploughing into the back of the M3, too! :D

"racing" framerate has been flawless :)

A cockpit view doesn't need to be modelled for each car surely? LFS certainly doesn't and it doesn't detract from the gameplay :)

The steering wheel on screen would be valuable for gamepad players because it lets you see how much turn you are putting on the wheels and how much opposite lock you have put on to counter oversteer. A gamepad with just a joystick thing doesn't give you any information about where the wheels are pointing at any given time. In fact looking at the replays I am sometimes surprised at the positions of my wheels considering how forcefully I moved the joystick.

I think LFS splits the cockpit up into segments and then depending on the car it picks the right segments to fit and make a complete cockpit.

But how accurate are they to the real thing? Do they actually resemble the proper cockpits? (I know the cars in LFS are fictional, but they are still based on RL aren't they?

Oh I doubt they are accurate at all. LFS doesn't have real cars per se so they can get away with it quite easily.
