Forza 2 Demo - Feedback

A cockpit view doesn't need to be modelled for each car surely? LFS certainly doesn't and it doesn't detract from the gameplay :)

The steering wheel on screen would be valuable for gamepad players because it lets you see how much turn you are putting on the wheels and how much opposite lock you have put on to counter oversteer. A gamepad with just a joystick thing doesn't give you any information about where the wheels are pointing at any given time. In fact looking at the replays I am sometimes surprised at the positions of my wheels considering how forcefully I moved the joystick.

They probably wouldn't get the car licences if they didn't have the correct interior modelled. Forza 2 appears to have gone for relativly low poly models compared to PGR3, and interiors would up the poly count quite a bit, as well as the time needed to research and model them. Then there's a lot more texture use on the interior of a car, compared to the exterior which can mostly use shaders, although there is all the painting you can do to the car, maybe they needed the texture resources for that.

Oh I doubt they are accurate at all. LFS doesn't have real cars per se so they can get away with it quite easily.

Exactly, the Forza 2 guys don't have that luxury and it would take a lot of time to get proper cockpits done.

I know there's probably a whole raft of reasons why they didn't add cockpits but I still think it's a cop out and slightly spoils a good game.

Is the difficulty of the AI cars known as it might simply be that its locked at an easier difficulty, so the catch up thing that you have in the GT series could be active. :)

AI is reported to be set as "MEDIUM" the full game will offer a much harder mode in "PROFESSIONAL" for the AI.

Seems a bit easy for medium :/

Easy setting must slash the AIs tyres beforehand :p

I have to say, the demo is a little boring..not fun like PGR3. But i expect multiplayer is where it's at. Once racing gets going between peeps here i think it'll be much more exciting. The AI (in the demo) seems quite predictable and doesn't really push you for places on the laps.

Agreed. The cockpit views in PGR3 were fantastic...really added to the experience. Massive disappointment.

PG4 will take the crown when it's released, i'm certain of that.

Will still get this...as i think online racing games with people you know and can have a bit of banter with makes all the difference. PGR used to be such a laugh sometimes.

I REALLY like the damage in Forza 2 though..quite spectacular.

Having played it a lot more at the weekend then I really do like it, ok the brakes are not right and no amount of arguing will change my mind on that one, they are wrong :) other than that I think its very good, the graphics well I said PGR3 looked better, I was wrong, played PGR3 at the weekend and FM2 is much better looking, just seems more graphically solid, sure PGR3 in the street races looks lovely but take it to the Nurburgring and its looking pretty weak compared to Mugello. Not too fussed about the missing cockpit view now, bumper view is very decent and is probably more realistic than a cockpit view in anycase ;) finally hooked up my 5.1 sound to the 360 and its really great for FM2, brings the game alive.

I would however say the sense of speed especially in the corners does not feel good, you do think your going very slow, but look down and your doing 80MPH round turn 1, but its not a big problem, but its probably why a lot of people think the cars handle bad and dont turn in ;)

tell you what I really don't like (its a great game overall well demo anyway)

is the glowing brake discs - I just think they look really poor.

Mark.

I quite like them although they need to tweak them a bit so that they don't glow at every given opportunity. At least they got it right so that when you lock the wheel it doesn't contribute to the disc's heat :)

It would be incredibly easy to link the disc heat to the tyre heat, say, have them only start heating up once the tyres are up to temperature.

I think the glowing disc brakes are ace, I love watching them on the replays.
Without a doubt they certainly add to the game, but they shouldn't be glowing amber at the first corner at the end of the first straight.

I don't see why cockpits are so popular... I got pgr3 whacked the cockpit view on, went ooooh then found out it just felt like a hindrance and swapped back to the bumper cam.

Same here. Looks nice but it aint realistic. The view is too restricted. Its not like Driving a car irl.

Can never get used to the cockpit view in games, always prefer the "bumper" cam.....
