Fowler Vs Anelka

Yep, that is a part of Fowler's game, but he also scores good goals (hat-trick against Bolton, Hat-Trick against Leicester spring to mind. All good goals)

yep i agree.

sunama u say u dont understand why he is so highly rated but how many league goals did rvn score last yr?

as far as i remember, henry was no.1 (23) and rvn was no.2 (21). or thereabouts.

its been over 5yrs since fowler scored that many...

henry had 24 goals , rvn had 23 goals, shearer had 23 goals and hasselbank had 23 goals

also by ur post it sounded like u dont know why fowler was rated so highly all those years ago

thats correct. still no one has actually answered why they rate fowler so highly (if at all, they do).

indeed, he has scored as many, if not more, in seasons past. but that was over half a decade ago (95/96 season). things have changed in those years.

2 yrs ago i rated hasselbaink as probably the best striker on the planet. 2 yrs on, and i dont think that any more.

things change.

in his prime he was second to shearer (and perhaps a.cole, when he was at newcastle), so maybe im being a bit harsh on the fellow. however, for some people to infer that he was one of the best finishers the game has ever seen. (he was 46% down on shearers goal tally), i think, is a bit far fetched. for statements like, " he is the most natural finisher..." (something that a.hansen said and some people here have echoed). surely the premiership's most gifted goalscorer cant be outscored by such a large margin?

if for example last year, henry scored 32 goals, and rvn 23. although rvn would be second best, he still too far off the pace to be mentioned in the same breath as henry, even though he finished 2nd from top. and i wouldnt rate RvN as highly because of this.

in his prime he was just too far off the pace being set by shearer/cole (at newcastle). and in the present he just cant seem to get himself fit enough to play a more than a few games.

for me, its a no brainer. anelka wins hands down over fowler. anelka will score over 10 goals/season for sure. the same cannot be said about fowler (going on years gone by).

It's a no-brainer for me too. Anelka won't keep his dummy in long enough to settle at a club whereas Fowler will.

Fowler isn't without his disciplinary problems, but he was popular at Liverpool both with the Kop and players alike. He's still popular now, and that says something.

I'd pick Fowler over Anelka every time. At least he'll never hold the club to ransom like Anelka has tried to a few times.

You've told me that Fowler will either stay or go? Cheers for that mate :)

Nothing to be sorry for, just didn't understand your post.

anelka does have an attitude problem, although a lot of that probably stems for him (as a young player) attracting attention from a big club like Real Madrid who at the time were prepared to make him one of the most expensive players ever. this probably gave him a big head and led him into believing that no club was good enough for him, but since his move out of madrid, he has come down to earth a bit and doesnt seem to be nearly as moody. (though he did recently turn down the chance to play for france, but i think he was just trying to get back at the french manager).

I see that, and his brothers didn't help that in the slightest.

I remember the incident with the French national side and thought he did the right thing in not playing TBH.

My disappointment were I a City fan would be the fact that he doesn't celebrate goals. He never did. He doesn't smile, he doesn't seem to talk to anyone. He's a loner and not a team player.

Not celebrating?

No rapport with the fans, looks like he doesn't care. Hardly endearing qualities.

Thats why I like Smithy so much. You can see he'd walk through fire for Leeds.

Feel the same way about him now as I did when he was at Liverpool. So if he was pushed out of the door at Leeds then yes, my opinion wouldn't change. If he added his name to the judas list then my opinion would go down.
