Fowler Vs Anelka

Feel the same way about him now as I did when he was at Liverpool. So if he was pushed out of the door at Leeds then yes, my opinion wouldn't change. If he added his name to the judas list then my opinion would go down.

Good Comment gilly. Agree fully with that......

gilly if you were offered a job that paid more money, would you not quit your current place of employment and take the new job? cuz thats all hasselbaink and ferdinand did. is there anything wrong with that?

Not to mention much better prospects.

aye, it wasn't just the money, the fact that they would never win anything at leeds was prolly important to them aswell. at man utd/chealsea at least they have a chance to win something in their careers, at leeds they did not :)

at the end of the day, if a footballer doesnt like his current place of employment (ie. the club) then i think he should have a right to ask to be placed on the transfer list. just like you or i can hand in our notice to our current employers if we want to move to another job.

i dont feel that there is anything wrong with that.

Thats not what Hasselbaink did though is it, and I am sure that had he stayed that season, we'd have won the title.

He refused point blank to ever kick another football for the club. He held us to ransom. He left for Athletico Madrid after we'd plucked him out of nothingness (3rd choice striker at Benfica IIRC) and made him the player he was, and then Athletico were relegated/ Athletico only came in for him after he said he wouldn't play for Leeds.

So the prospects thing is out of the window, the club went down, and the money thin g isn't true either as he wasn't offered a better contract from somewhere else before saying it.

He also left it far too late for us to sign someone to replace him.

yeah but he became top goal scorer in spain (the best league in EU). perhaps athletico madrid was just a stepping stone to a bigger spannish club. (barca or real, maybe?)

as i remember the problem was that leeds were not paying him as much as he wanted, hence he asked to be put on the transfer list (this was all done during the summer, so leeds were quite ok to sign another playere during this time). did athletico madrid not agree to pay him higher wages?

it might be the most exciting league in europe but most teams have a very suspect defense so im not suprised he had scored so many goals

yeah but all the other strikers/players (inc. raul, rivaldo, lopez, etc) were also going up against the same defences, yet JFH breached the defences more often than any other player in spain, that year.

just to note that the previous year (with leeds) he was the joint top scorer, and the year after he returned from spain (with chelsea) he was once again the top goal scorer.

top goal scorer, 3 years in a row, with 3 different teams. thats impressive.

Or perhaps he thought Athletico Madrid were a better team than Leeds, which obviously wasn't the case.

It wasn't that Leeds weren't paying him enough. As I said, they plucked him out of nowhere, made him the household name he was, then offered to make him the highest paid earner (by quite some way) at the club.

I think it's way off to do what he did in the face of that.

in hindsight, of course we now know that at that time (maybe even now) athletico madrid were not as good as leeds, however, like you said, at the time he may have honestly believed that athletico madrid were gonna compete for a place in the champions league, and finish high up in the spanish league.

how wrong was he....

still, he finished top man in a team that got relegated, few can boast that... i mean imagine if Tore Andre Flo finished top goal scorer this season and sunderland got relegated...that truely would be quite an achievement.
