I love it even more that it has been 10 years now
I got the game again from ebay and installed with the Freelancer: HD Edition mod. They updated a lot of textures and it looks great for a 20 year old game. Running it 5160x2160

Only person I know who has a CD drive. I also recall really enjoying the game and never finding anything else quite like it. I think there was a game called dark Star 1 which was kind of similar but still not a patch on freelancer.

You don't have an external one handy? I have had an external one for maybe 10-15 years now. I don't even remember the last time I used it before today
Well now I am really going to blow your mind. I even have a external floppy disk reader. Still have all my floppy disks from school days too

Freelancer is still going strong with people hosting publicservers to play on.
there was a mod i saw recently : Discovery / rebirth / crosfire think it was one of these.
its still going strong cumunity wise.
i stil have all my CDs/DVDs as a just in case..
lots to expore in game. remembered fondly.

Last time I used a floppy disk was 1998. I used to have a game boy emulator and Pokémon yellow on it which I took into school

It was hideous.
The voice acting was perhaps the worst part. The main character sounded like an American failing to impersonate Ringo Starr!
Yeah. I remember people saying it was like Freelancer etc but it was crap sadly.
With the HD Mod and a high res monitor the game does not look 20 years old to me. Sure some areas look dated, but overall nothing that will get in the way of enjoying the game.
I would usually go down the trading route but this time I may stick to bounty hunting instead with minimal trading. Will see how I feel though. Still in the New York system.
I still remember the lines. Most npc's say something along like lines of "we don't run this station, but we have an understanding with the people who do"
Oh and I thought Trent was voiced by Scott Bacula for a while, but turns out it is someone else.

I came across a game called rebel Galaxy Outlaw. It isn't to bad. Has trading and decent combat. Has s Western vibe going on. I enjoyed it when I played it.

I remember Dark Star 1 because of its unusual anti-piracy for the time. Let you play the first sector, but emerge in the second one and everything is blurred.
Wasn't too bad of a game, but as said nothing on FL.

I went back to this a couple of months ago, and thought how bad it was, I could not remember all the space stations being basically all the same, same conversations ect, but did love the game to death when it was released, would sooner sit and play no man's sky, these days

Star citizen is playable now and worth trying it for free at the end of the month
I have had that for like 10 years now I think. Only tried it twice in that time and quickly uninstalled
Yeah, it is a bit samey. But something about the whole package I just like.
Going to post some screenshots at some point to show how you can get it to look.
To be fair to @jonneymendoza I have not tried it in a long time. I keep hearing there will be a big update that will improve it soon or something but not sure it has. Last I heard they were having problems again.
Will give it a go at some point this year. But honestly I just want the single player campaign. Multiolayer would be cool, but only works if you have the time to commit to it regularly, for me anyway.

Wait for 4.2 patch to try it out again.
If they deliver what they intend and it's relatively bug free and stable, everyone and there dog and cat is going to play this if you are remotely a space or Sci fi fan.

Yep. I have been waiting for it for over a dacade now. So long I have completed Freelancer multiple times in the timespan
I can't wait for Squadron 42. We will probably get it 2025 at the pace they are going.
